My update: Life after poker has had me, not pathless, but not exactly with a defined path. However, 16 years after graduating with a mechanical engineering degree, I am starting my first job as a mechanical engineer on Monday!

I've spent the last five years in the construction industry (municipal building inspection), so this experience means I'm entering much above an entry level salary. But, I'm now a quasi-newbie in a new field over again. Exciting and scary at the same time.

Hope all is well with all the rest of the STTF community.

Cheers.

Congrats Devin! I had a somewhat similar path when I started as a data scientist the last few years. It's weird to work under people who are younger than you, but it has paid off well for me. I think I can say that this is close to my dream job at least for now. One good thing about being older is that you will have additional experience and skills that you can bring to the table.
Good luck.

There's a shortage of inspectors throughout North America Jay. I'm not sure what qualifications they need you your neck of the woods, but around here you just need to challenge a couple exams and you can find a job.

I think about it sometimes. A lot of those jobs are part-time contract employee jobs around here and I could do that and continue doing solar. I've had a general and electrical contractor's licence for 10 years, so I think I'd have a pretty good shot. It's a combo of pride and misplaced optimism about how I should have made more money in this business and that I'm always just around the corner from it that keeps me from looking at any regular jerb.

Global update, broke the $3k Mark, after a detour below $1300 along the way. I'm probably gonna just call the $2 challenge completed at this point.

The $215 mtts are calling to me stronger every day. I'm fighting the good fight to not play them on my current bankroll so far, but it is a fight I know I will lose.

You won the challenge for sure. I got to $350 and got bored and played some $50NL and with a little bit of run bad I'm back under $100.

Think I'm retiring for good now as I find hardly any joy in playing compared to when I fell in love with it back in the day.

I took $2 to like $900 the last time I was playing online and then got frustrated and had it all on like 2 tables of 2/4 and busto'd.

Not sure what you mean, but my ADD pretty much excludes playing one table at a time.

Did my first cashout from global (and no, I didn't reach $5K, just needed the $500 for my trip to my kids graduation for her master's of economics)

From request, to requesting docs, to approving docs, to the money sitting in my PayPal account, less than 24 hours. So cash out was legit pockerstars level service. I wish the software was pokerstars level, but still very happy overall with the site, and it hasn't been shut down, so that's a plus!

When placing your entire role on the line, 1 table = full commitment to the single shot of glory!

In other news, legal sports betting across the good ole US of A: https://www.cardplayer.com/poker-new...-supreme-court

Hopefully online poker is right behind it.

About time! Having lived in California many years and following the poker fight there, there's so much nonsense and political/special-interest corruption around gambling law in the US. And Cali probably isn't going to get that sports betting anytime soon (unless the big tribes really want it).

The last proposed iPoker law in Cali included a provision that would have paid the horse tracks up to $60 million/year...for doing absolutely nothing...

Still waiting for leaders who care about the social ills of gambling to install effective self-exclusion mechanisms (i.e. Player's Card registry that you have to swipe at each purchase point) for their Lotteries...

Extremely so. She did it all post poker apocalypse, so she has basically done it all on her own, self motivated and self funded.

Apathy is 2/4 in a tourney in Montenegro. $1 million for 3rd or higher, 2.4 up top.

Nice to see good people doing well.
