Hi everyone,

Apologies if this is the wrong subforum, but this seemed the most appropriate (considering highstakes mtt is closed).

I satellited into a live £1k+100 tournament and have never really played a live tournament before. My highest buy-in previously has been around $100 online only once. Was making a thread to ask for any advice in regards of playing a 1k and also for any tips on live tournament strategy as opposed to online. Also, how much consideration should I take into account for live tells be it to hide them or take notice of them from others.

Thanks in advance 2+2

looks like you are a new guy for a MTT live.

I cant tell you the feeling when i was the first time to win a ticket to macau cup tour, it just amazing and i feel like i goona be the next Johnny chan.

Ok, cut the ***** off. when you play mtt live, these point you should know.

!!!!!this is very important!!!!!! you play 100+ hand/hr online and you know u will have good hand like AA KK as time goes by. In mtt live, you play 20less hand/hr, sometime you will lose your patient and start to play marginal hand like J9s AT on early position. JUST BE PATIENT

do NOT act until its your turn, sometimes you just muck you hand quickly before it comes to your turn. but sometimes a early action will hurt you, like if you bet before the oop player's action, he might check and the referee will say your action is mandatory, and he check-raise you with nuts or bluff, that hurts you a lot.

u dont have HM or pokertacker, you have to eyeballed every player to tell if he is a idiot or a pro. Also you haave to do the math in your mind, how much the pot is, how much the villian have behand. dealer will not count the pot for you.

DO not overtrust tells, trust poker theory, find the reason why the bet or rasie, tells only help you when you have thousands hand record agaisnt one player.

tells are not a huge part coz ppl can do reverse tells

when you range your opponent also think about what your own range looks like because how you play will affect your opponents range

Compared to online, large, live MTTs are extremely exhausting. Constantly remembering to ante, calculating proper bet/raise sizing (no "bet 3/4 pot button"), watching the action closely so you don't miss something important (like the action being on you!), figuring out pot size, V stack sizes ect.... After day 1 you will feel like you just got off a 12hr merry-go-round ride. My advice would be to get good sleep the night b4, eat healthy and lite, bring some Tylenol, and take your time every single hand. Don't tank, but don't just snap any decision. The quality of play, even in this size BI, will not be as consistently solid like it is online.

Live tells can help tip the scales in a close decision, but it's not usually a deciding factor. Listen to what they are saying with their chips.

Outside of that, just play solid tourney poker.
