Hand 1
Poker Stars, $0.44 Buy-in (15/30 blinds) No Limit Hold'em Tournament, 8 Players

CO: 1,450 (48.3 bb)
BTN: 2,065 (68.8 bb)
SB: 755 (25.2 bb)
Hero (BB): 1,560 (52 bb)
UTG+2: 3,415 (113.8 bb)
MP1: 1,470 (49 bb)
MP2: 1,345 (44.8 bb)
MP3: 1,440 (48 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with J J
UTG+2 raises to 90, 2 folds, MP3 calls 90, 3 folds, Hero raises to 420, UTG+2 raises to 870, MP3 folds
Hero ?

UTG+2 is 20/10 over 10 hands so can't really tell anything from that. If we do ICM calculations, we have 9.1% $ev by folding, and 21.6% $ev if we shove and win. He's likely never folding to a shove so is it correct to say that we need 9.1/21.6 = ~42% equity vs. his 4betting range for us to shove? If so, do you think it's better to size a 3bet smaller so it's easier to 3bet/fold, or size it larger so it's easier to 3bet/shove?

Hand 2
PokerStars - 100/200 Ante 25 NL - Holdem - 4 players

Hero (BB): 2,965
CO: 2,470 (VPIP: 31.03, PFR: 5.36, 3Bet Preflop: 7.69, Hands: 58)
BTN: 5,593 (VPIP: 37.93, PFR: 5.36, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 58)
SB: 2,472 (VPIP: 43.86, PFR: 5.36, 3Bet Preflop: 6.67, Hands: 58)

4 players post ante of 25, SB posts SB 100, Hero posts BB 200

Pre Flop: (pot: 400) Hero has T Q
CO calls 200, fold, SB calls 100, Hero checks

Flop: (700, 3 players) 7 5 4
SB bets 600
Hero ?

Here I'm not really sure what to do. I think shoving pre is probably the best vs. 2 loose limpers but I filter my HUD for 7-9 players, 4-6, etc. and CO was a bit tighter with 15/5 over 23 hands (don't know if filtering is a good idea). As played however would you shove flop?

1st hand:

I would choose a smaller 3-bet size. By going so big you are likely to fold out all worse hands and get 4-bet/jammed on with better hands. True, 10 hands isn't enough, but it's still something to work with. Given the fact that villain is no aggro maniac (VPIP/PFR would indicate that already), it is safe to assume he is being somewhat "honest".

By giving you such a good price even an bad player realizes he is likely to get a call. If he had 77-99 I think he would more likely 4-bet jam. Maybe he does this with TT (?), but more often than not you are up against the premiums - AK/AQ/AA/KK/QQ. I would 3-bet smaller and flat the 4-bet (no idea if this is optimal as jacks are vulnerable and you are OOP - it's just what I would do ).

2nd hand:

I would shove the flop as I've developed almost a click-it reflex to donkbets and my hand looks so pretty, but it's probably a punt since it's on the bubble. I think with that many blinds left you have to fold. Villains bet, big as it is (quarter of his stack), is trying to discourage action, not encourage it. The least villain has is a big draw, but he could easily have two pair or similar. I don't know ... Probably depends on how much fold equity you think you have (is villain capable of folding a weak 4 or 5 with no draw?).

Thanks for the reply. Hand 1 I agree I think I should size it smaller (like ~330), then it's easier to get away from depending on how he sizes a 4bet.

First hand I might even just flat pre. Early stages of STTs are really about tight play and preserving chips. JJ can be tough to play in a 3b pot against a utg raise, and you don't want to commit your stack if he comes over the top.

Hand 2 I'm shoving without hesitation. There's no need to get fancy or overthink that spot. You have a good flush draw with 2 overcards and 15bb in an unraised pot. Shove it in.

I would flat Jacks too.Too vulnerable to play postflop vs 2 OOP which raise/call 3,too strong to fold pre.
Jam pre or flat,I would flat.

2nd hand I would check to see the flop and then shove.
