Bona .... in the well.

Ozi tossed me in. An ill advised choice maybe but I'll do my best.

Quote:
A stranger is being shown around a village that he has just become part of. He is shown a well, and his guide says, "On any day except Tuesday, you can shout any question down that well, and you'll be told the answer." The man seems pretty impressed, and so he shouts down: "Why not on Tuesday?" The voice from in the well shouts back: "Because, on Tuesday, it's your day in the well."
When I heard a similar story (circa 1955), the punch line was "Thursday is your day in the barrel"

I am not one of the sharpest strat knives in the drawer so any poker questions you ask me, you may want to get a second opinion. eyemo.

I'll come around every few hours or more often maybe and we''ll see whether my answers are as dumb as your questions. Drum Roll Please

You're not a stranger in this village, and it's not Tuesday. Since Dave doesn't hang around here any more, who's the biggest nit on this forum?

Re: Bona .... in the well.

Why in the name of Shania would anyone ask Bona questions about teh pokerz?

What do you do irl?

What's your favorite drink, alcoholic or otherwise?

Nebraska football sucks. Discuss.

Hobbies?

I'm guessing that at one time you owned a big, badass American aw-TOE-MOE-beel. What was it, and what was its fate? (I'm further guessing 1968 Buick Electra, and that it blew a head gasket playing chicken and is now rotting away in a neighbor's barn. If I'm even close, I'll buy it.)

I started playing in about 1955 age 12 or 13 iirc, some neighborhood boys and and I and later expanded to include others of similar age. Went on for several years. We played dealers choice (never heard of Hold 'em) spread limit .05/.50 or .10/1.00. For reference I made about $6 a week on my paper route and didn't get an allowance.

Fortunately I was pretty nitty even then and I could see the best hand would always win, so I tried to play the best hand and fold the not best hand
In high school, this was still going on and my best friends dad gave us copies of a relatively new book: "The Education of Poker Player" by Herbert O. Yardley (still have it, a sentimentally prized possession) This book made me even nittier so I kept winning at home games all my life through about 2005 or so when I took it "on line". I had never played in casinos, always figured there were too many sharks and pros there and the dreaded rake seemed pretty high to me.

I found the online game to be a different animal but, as always when I want to learn something or improve something, I went to the bookstore and found SSHE. From there I found 2+2 and Since then have played about 250K hands or so at slowly increasing limits. Now playing 1/2 the most (and btw losing my adz for the last 3-4 weeks) I have been a winning player in the long term.

I learn strat from you guys and I follow the math when I can, or until my head explodes, but really I am an instinct player who doesn't think quickly enough to do the calcs in the heat of battle.

I have probably found my highest level of limit play at 1/2 or 2/4 but meh, you never know.

I did start playing live at casinos last year and I love it. EZ game at low levels 3/6 and 4/8. Higher tha that idk. Haven't tried it prolly won't. Semi retired, low income, bankroll nit, yada yada.

Bona,

I know you are semi-retired right now. What was your first job (besides the paper route)? What other jobs did you have until now (I think you said something about being in the restaurant busineess at one time)?

Where did you go to school and what type of education do you have?

From my one time experience with Cornhusker fans, if you are a Cornhusker fan you must have some class, true or false?

Doc

This is actually two-pronged: one, Bona said don't ask about poker; two, the people that wind up in the Well are well known (no pun intended), so you, I or Doc could probably answer any question about poker put to Bona and you wouldn't be able to tell it wasn't him.

This is supposed to be more about finding out about people than finding out about what they do with J7o in CO after 5 limpers (Bona folds, btw).

while this is amusing, make it 6 limpers and J7o OTB and it's even funnier.

Re: Bona .... in the well.

If you had (or got) to be locked into an eternal monthly session review with any micros regular, who would you choose?

Did you learn how to not bubble in every single tournament while I was gone?

Do you have children, grandchildren?

If so, do they like poker?

If not, do you encourage them to?

You hear people break into your house. You have a baseball bat, a kitchen knife, a fully automatic airsoft pistol with an unlimited clip, an old antique one shot pistol and a hand grenade. Which do you select to defend with?
You have 2 hands and can have pairs of a weapon if you like.

What do you do irl?
Semi-retired Real Estate broker. My first career was in restaurant management for 32 years then went into real estate.

What's your favorite drink, alcoholic or otherwise?
Most frequent is coffee. I drink alcohol but sparingly any more. Mostly around dinner out, Bombay Saphirre before dinner, a modest dry red wine with dinner, drambuie or cream sherry with coffee on the side after dinner.

Nebraska football sucks. Discuss.
^^^^ not this^^^^^ teh sux is temporary

Hobbies?
I take college classes. I read a lot. I like to play golf but am doing way to little of it. Poker ldo

Yer money is safe. I have had several cars that qualify (and many that don"t) but I never had sense enough to keep any of them.
1961 Impala convertible
1964 Triumph Spitfire
1967 Triumph GT6
1966- Corvette Roadster big block
1966- Corvette Roadster small block
1966 Corvette Roadster big block, bored stroked dome pistons ~650 HP zowie couldn't keep an effin clutch in it!!!
1976 Lincoln Mark IV
1985 Buick Riviera, loaded
after that I quit caring about cars and drove my 1997 Subaru for the last 180k miles.

Scooping ice cream and making malts/sundaes etc at a local ice cream parlor 35 cents an hour wooot. I made fudge in the window of one of the Wisconsin Dells Shops for a couple of years then operated my own in Old Town Chicago until I went busto. Then I got a real job learning to manage restaurants and worked my way up at that for over 30 years.

Where did you go to school and what type of education do you have?

I went to teachers college for a couple of years. It was in my practice teaching that I realized I had no calling to work with other teachers or with students. I headed for Wisconsin Dells then see previous answer... however I have been taking random classess at various colleges and universities as a hobby for a long time. As the mood strikes me. Just finished a couple of semesters of American History and am thinking opf taking comparative religions next.

From my one time experience with Cornhusker fans, if you are a Cornhusker fan you must have some class, true or false?

Certainly, there are only two types of class Doc, First class and No class. I have one of them.

idk which group plays better. More likely there is a similar range and no overall, general difference.

I am thinking I don't know much about the rest of the world. I know many of them seem to have a different word for everything than I do. Actually I should learn more. History fascinates me and I should try and learn more about various countries histories.

I think I am a little sounder at FR but I prefer SH. My natural tendency is to PLAY TAG but a little on the nitty side. I have opened up some though and try to change it up situationally.

Recently I have been peeling too many flops and getting myself into trouble with marginal draws. In other words I am getting fishy and need to firm it up post flop.

idk. I like Jacob on my right in SHENANIGANS but idk about cash. I used to like Doc on my left but lately I would rather see him enjoy the game without me if you know what I mean.

Wookie temp banned me for knocking him out of a tourney then only finishing 2nd.
