OOT is a seemingly diverse crowd, but for the most part the people here seem ambitious, upwardly mobile, and intelligent. I live in Manhattan, so I have seen my fair share of cocaine use (and abuse). I'd like to see where people in this forum stand in their own personal use of this drug, more out of curiosity than anything else. A poll seems like the way to go on this.

Anyone else do coke a bunch of times and never paid for it? I dont know y but this is the only drug I have never paid for.

Never tried it but meant to when I was partying down in Princeton a few months ago. Honestly, is it all its cracked up to be? A good rec drug?

I've got a friend who is a very liked guy, extremely charismatic. But he has the Doc Gooden/Darryl Strawberry problem: when he drinks he often feels the compulsion to score some blow. It doesn't help that he's fresh off of a divorce, basically unemployed because of the mortgage industry and staying rent-free at a friend's house who also doesn't work. Kind of a sad existence. They have a tendency to get drunk a lot, smoke a lot of P.O.T., and then he hears that voice on his shoulder I'm guessing a couple or few times per week. Kind of a sad existence.

Obv most people, probably a vast majority, can use recreationally without issue. But it's the ones it gets its hooks into that suck. I guess you can say that about most every drug including alcohol though...

As an aside, I was reading recently that coke has made a bit of a comeback as the current generation doesn't remember the John Belushi and other assorted horror stories. Also, there was a guy who I think lived in NYC who used to blog extensively about his coke habit, which was basically every day. It was interesting but I think he stopped some time ago and I can't remember what it was called. If I can dig it up I'll post it.

This would've been my response, but since it wasn't an option I went with "I do it occasionally. When I'm partying, if someone else has it, I don't turn it down." since it seemed the closest.

coke is fun, but as far as a cost-to-enjoyment factor goes, it's horrible.

pros:
-the first line or two are fun.
-it lets you drink heavily without getting drunk
-sex stamina increases

cons:
-it's incredibly expensive relative to the amount of time the effects last for
-if you do a lot, it has probably one of the worst hangovers of anything
-unlike weed or alcohol, there;s a fairly powerful desire to do more after the effects start wearing off to keep the high going.


ive done it in the past and i guess if offered it i wouldnt turn it down, but im not going out of my way to look for it.

Tried it once. It was fun especially just talking. I think I talked for a hour non-stop. Coming down was really depressing though.

I have no desire to do it again because I don't like stimulants that much and I'm a bit prone to panic attacks.

By the way, for the curious/noob crowd, here is an OOT thread from a couple of years back that I found really interesting. IIRC Blarg (!) and suzzler had really good input. Their posts reminded me of one really annoying thing and why I'm glad I'm basically never around it: it turns parties into haves and have nots, a lot of women into coke whores, and a lot of bathrooms into gathering places.
