In October the swine flu vaccine will be made available to the general public in the US and Canada.

I know some people who are worried about possible side effects, or they don't think swine flu is any more serious then regular seasonal flu, so they plan to skip the vaccine. I also know some people who want it.

Just curious to see what the majority of you are planning.

Have never gotten any flu vaccine. No plan to deviate this season.

Never have in the past, but will this year. But not really so much because of swine flu itself as much as riding the train to work this year as opposed to the past, and dealing with the almost daily occurrence of some ass just coughing out into the open air.

Me either. I have, however, been considering a standard flu vaccine this season. If I got that I'd probably get H1N1 vaccine as well.

I doubt I will end up getting either. I'll probably pick up a new course of tamiflu instead.

I am in Alberta and we can all have one for free here. I don't care one way or the other but have decided I will get one if it is easy to get. No crazy long lines or stuff. My reasoning is stupid tho and I hate myself for it. lol I am only getting the shot because when I have gotten sick in the past people I know always say "I told you so". And it really drives me batty.

"I told you not to go outside in minus 40 with wet hair!" Wet hair after hockey just has to happen. What am I going to take a blow dryer to hockey? yah goood idea.

"I told you to get a flu shot now you going to die of swine flu!" Like I probably will not have swine flu but just plain old flu and when you feel sick you feel worse when people make you feel like you caused your own suffering.

Maybe just tell people I got the shot and dont get it! yupyup yup

no way would i get this shot. a lot of people can't clear it due to any number of reasons and your left with fatigue-like symptoms for many many months or years.

not gonna chance it.

I got the flu shot this week and will be getting the H1N1 vaccine when it becomes available. I used to never got them until the flu kicked my arse 5 years ago. I've gotten the vaccine every year since and will continue to do so. If you have never gotten the flu as an adult it is one miserable experience.

"I told you not to get that flu shot now look at you nothing but a lazy bum now" Ok I can't win this it seems.

Seriously I need links to some stuff I can read in detail and see who the sources are if I am going to believe this is possible. Dang why are there not any easy decisions in life?!

The person you quoted claimed the side effects make you feel fatigued for up to a year which is impossible, since this vaccine is less then a year old. He may have been thinking about the 1976 swine flu vaccine which is different from the one being used today.

I'm not getting it. It has nothing to do with side effects. I'm not getting it because I'm not afraid of getting H1N1. It isn't worth the hour of my life it will take to drive to the doctor and get the vaccine.

Thx Maso777, I have read about the 1976 vaccine. Also read about people thinking other vaccines have caused autism and pretty much anything else you can name. I really have trouble identifying the truth.

This is the truth tho and I missed it till you pointed it out. Someone is going to tell me "I told you so" regardless what I do and that is a sad truth.

I voted no to the poll, but plan on getting the regular seasonal flu shot. Just not comfortable taking a vaccine that was fast-tracked, without further information. If **** hits the fan, then I'll barricade myself in my home with frozen dinners.

i've only had the flu once, got it a year ago, i'm 25. i actually kind of enjoyed it. i had a super hi fever and slept 20 hours a day under a million blankets. the time i spent awake i actually felt pretty good, like a human heater. as for how illnesses go, i could definitely tell that it was way different from say a cold in terms of i guess the power it had on me, in that i was forced to sleep and could've in no way functioned normally, but assuming you can take the time off to rest, its not so bad.

i'm not gonna get an h1n1 vaccine because its no worse than the normal seasonal flu and i don't get those shots either.

Sounds like a really tame version. Combine high fever with vomiting and most cold symptoms, more like it usually goes down. Just the fever by itself isn't too bad unless it gets really high.

Yes

Haven't you ever seen that movie theater scene in Outbreak?!?!?

Sometimes I'll get the vaccine and go down with 2 or 3 2-3day colds, but I avoid the 10-14 flu hell

I won't pay for this. If it was free and there was no line I'd get it.

Edit: I know the vaccine is free, but they're gonna hit me with some Mickey Mouse crapass $10 fee so some goober can swab my arm with an alcohol patch and stick me. Give me the damn needle and I'll stick myself for free.
