Actually the situation specified that they were there for 2 nights but even if they were there for a week it would be $105 not $200. Also-- since the trip would be seven days rather than two-- even though $105 is greater in absolute terms, relative to a budget for a seven day trip it is even less significant than the $30. I fully understand the need for a budget but all budgets should have some room. If a budget is so tight that $15 extra a day matters then frivolous things like travel to Vegas should be reconsidered.

Also the location argument fails because when the room split became $130 for OP and $70 for friend he was fine with MGM.

Pretty much. My last trip to Vegas I took three friends who had never been but really needed to have some fun. I paid for the whole thing. We are all going to die. The purpose of money is to have as much fun and as many good memories as you can before that happens.

Cheapos usually have other hangups that I can't stand. They are just nittier, imo.

KJS

I am the guy who doesn't really care about a buck or two, or value hotel upgrades. My friend is a guy who would go to Vegas and sweat spending 30 bucks. In the end, he has taken a lot more trips than I have, even though I have always made more money. There could be something to being cheap.

Go get a ****ing job that pays you better than $2/hour you lazy sack of ****. I'm tired of hearing people that are barely qualified to tie their own shoes that the rest of us aren't paying them enough to do menial jobs that aren't worth the effort for the rest of us to get out of our chairs.

If you want to earn more money, go get qualified to do something worth earning more money.

Sorry for harping on the tipping part, I only read to about post #20. There have probably been warnings against this that will get me banned for a while but I had to get that off my chest. I feel much better now.

edit to add: I tip well, and have a regular bar that I go to where I tip 20% plus, usually much more (probably still cheap by many bartenders standards ). I tip for the atmosphere and top notch service I get every time I'm in there, and don't mind paying it. My problem lies in people that go into an industry full well knowing what the cons will be, and then bitch about them when they come upon them. Even when they make tons more than the general population, irregardless of the fact that they are grossly overpaid.

I must really be a prick and a tight ass. I go to the bar and order a beer that costs $3.50 a bottle( approx half the price of a six pack of the same beer) and then you expect a tip??? What the hell did you do other than reach into a cooler and get it, and open the top(your job as bartender by the way). You want a tip get a better job.

We had a 40 minute or so drive back home and this would cost us around $4 which is 12 soles. GF's Mom asks taxi after taxi to take us where we are going for 10 soles and just won't settle for 12. After about 15 minutes consulting about 10 taxis we finally got one that agreed to the 10 soles price thus saving approximately 65 cents for our trip.

This whole bit about haggling over the price which is so common in other countries just cracks me up. It's like this big game of chicken. Of course, Americans like me are viewed as total fish in such situations and usually end up paying like triple what a local would.

everywhere i have been in Asia has had far superior service and luckily, they are not of the opinion that bar tenders, waiters, and guys who open the door for you deserve to make four times the minimum wage, so even though the price of their wage is included in the bill, its still less money.

I would be curious to learn how the illogical format of American tipping evolved. Certainly, they could have just paid a wage as is the standard everywhere else on the planet, so I think the $2/hr thing is more the result of the restaurant owner noticing that people were tipping the servers regardless and thus lowered his pay. Then I suppose by not setting a fixed price for tipping, neighbors were pitted against each other to see could tip the most, forcing the biggest tippers to be matched or suffer inexplicable personal and public embarrassment.
