And you tip a dollar per drink. I'm sorry if cheap people don't like it, but there it is, and it's probably good that you're finding out now that every bartender in the world thinks you're a cheapskate loser when you leave silver.
And I think every bartender in the world is a deadbeat ****** with a lack of education and proper job skills and has to work at a cash-oriented job to support their rampant coke habit.

Do you seriously think any of us actually care what some dip**** ****** standing behind a bar thinks of us? The only time I ever think of you guys is when I wonder how much of my taxes will be going to your unemployment check you will be collecting in the next six months.

I always give servers 20% because they are actually working for their tips, and have to have a personality and do an actual job, but I think I'm going to start tipping bartenders in pennies and ramen coupons, because that is what they actually deserve. Its also laughable that you think that the 'regulars' come to the bar because you're there. They don't give a **** if it is you or Doyle Brunson in a gorilla suit giving them their beer, they are just there to get drunk and don't give a **** if you're handing them a miller lite or dead in a ditch.

And yes, when I did this job, I was better at it than you and worked in a much nicer place than you currently do. What exactly are you saying? That you are a lazy piece of **** lacking motivation, who still feels the need to call people cheap and expect them to pay you well?

Seriously?
Well, this thread was not meant to devolve into tipping thread #234230454, although I should've known it would. My point with the change tip was less that I feel entitled to more, but that throwing a buck is kind of standard and I can't put myself in the shoes of someone who pockets the bill--like it's a money-saving move.

I wouldn't say I'm a lazy piece of ****. It's not my dream to stay in the restaurant industry forever, or claw my way into fine dining. Which by the way, I've done, and hated. The stressfulness and walking around with a stick up your ass was not for me. You sound like an angry person and should try to relax a little.

I know it's standard and all in America to tip but you come across as a ****ing prick in that sentence

I think you do, or you wouldn't be asking what I think.

We don't have Miller Lite.

You didn't think very long about this then.

To further show you how wrong you are, this was my uniform at said restaurant:

Nice pair of blue jeans, no frays. Starched white shirt, long starched white apron. White t-shirt underneath, be smart enough to match your belt and shoes. Our concentration wasn't on what we wore, or having a stick up our ass that we presented through our language. It was on our knowledge of the food, and our knowledge of service overall.

Please, continue. You really could learn a lot here.

Self-improvement is a passion of mine.

I don't know why you're continuing with this. I am a good waiter/bartender, I like my job, I make pretty good money, and I also think people who tip $.50 or under 15% are cheapskates. I don't tell them that to their faces, I think it, and I post about it anonymously on internet forums. What exactly is your problem with all of this?

If self-improvement is a passion of yours, why are you a bartender? Did you work your way up from janitor?

My problem is you coming out and posting how cheap you think people are when it is obvious that you don't even take your job seriously enough to get yourself into a better position within the business. You come on here and complain how cheap people are, while defending yourself with contradictory statements that make no sense.

I'm simply defending everyone you are trying to make fun of with an inside knowledge from the other side of the people you are trying to slam, because you are not the best representative to be making any sort of remarks.

You can keep repeating this, it really doesn't do anything for your argument.

Why does being happy where I am in the business preclude me from sharing the top-secret insider info that $.50 is a bad tip?

And my OP wasn't even complaining, just saying that I don't understand people who do it, and things like it, such as haggle over spinach portions and staying in crappy hotel rooms to save a few bucks.

Thanks, it's making me laugh.

And what exactly is my argument? For some reason everyone is angry about the tipping thing, which pretty much supports my general thesis that a lot of people are weird angry cheapskates.

The one thing you're right about is that I should've known this was gonna turn into a tipping thread.

But earlier on people were complaining about people who were cheap in some situations but would then splurge sometimes like this:

"The worst was when we were in Slovenia and my friends wanted to get the bottle of wine (at the grocery store) that was about 2 EUR cheaper on an average cost of 5 EUR. It's ****ing Europe. Wine is cheap. Might as well get some good one??? And then the next day one of them splurges on a Cuba worth $20 in a club, wtf."

What you might not be understanding is that they aren't living miserable lives. They're saving money in these non-important situations in order to spend it at times when they will enjoy it.

The funny thing about this is that I can imagine it being harder to work at a McDonald's where you're constantly moving around and have more responsibilities (cashier, drive thru, getting the food, preparing the food, cleaning) then it is for a bar tender, who most of the time is simply pouring alcohol or giving it out. But then again, I've never been a bartender, so maybe there are some other things that I'm not aware of.

I could definately see someone making an argument that the McDonald's worker would be more deserving of a tip though.
