I would propose that your ability to focus so completely on one area (in this case playing the WSOP ME) at the expense of other areas (in this case your lodging and belongings) has something to do with your success IRL. I don't think that could ever happen to me, which is also part of why after 10 hours of poker I'm so much more likely to do something really stupid.
I think that’s true. I have some thoughts on this outlined in part three, but they’re inchoate and my draft sucks at the moment and I’m spending the day on the 1864 civil war campaigns.
It’s less a function of traveling to ****ty places than of traveling a fair amount in general and the flow restrictors in many hotels. And when I say high, I mean good solid hard-to-keep-it-straight-in-the-face-at-top-volume-high.
Out of curiosity, how much poker do you play on a regular basis? Your skill level suggests someone who has a lot of hands under his belt. However, it seems like you have enough going on in the rest of your life that playing a lot of poker would be difficult.
So you're either pretty good despite not playing very much or you've somehow managed to find time to play a significant amount of poker. Which is it?
I've lurked long enough here to semi-remember that you wear a ring when you play in the ME (or at least have). If you were wearing it this year, was the Budweiser shirt really a disguise? Not that I think you were trying to use it to throw people off, as from your writing I agree that it wouldn't work for very long.
Playing 2500-5000 during the fifth level of the day, Yu has 650,000, I have almost a million, and Borsa has 450,000. Yu raises to 11K from the cutoff. Overreacting to Yu, I flat QdJd from the button. I hate letting Borsa into the hand from the small blind, but I don’t want to get four-bet off this one. Borsa calls and the short stack in the big blind folds. There’s 42,000 in the middle to Jc 5s 2d. I check, Borsa checks. Yu is continuing with a wide range and he does so here, betting 15,000. I call, totally willing to let him hang himself with another bet; I’ve got an overcard kicker and my hand doesn’t need much protection on a dry board. Borsa calls. Borsa isn’t likely to have a better jack. I believe he’d have squeezed against my call with AJo/s or KJs and perhaps offsuit combos as well. Borsa knows the width of Yu’s range and Borsa will want to play heads-up in position against me if he can.
I'm assuming you were actually in the small blind here
And the ring is a giveaway to anyone who knows what it is, but it is the object I’ve owned longest in the world and I’ll surely lose it if I don’t wear it. And yes, i’ve occasionally gotten called out on it.

Bull****!!!
Write moar! Edit less--and later.
Still enjoying the installments, Howard!

I didn't see you wearing a ring on the broadcast and I was explicitly looking for it!
My undergraduate school, which was also DBZ’s, has a distinctive class ring. I suspect very few graduates have ever driven a Budweiser truck for a living.
