I'm just going to assume everyone with fake allergies didn't eat enough dirt as a kid.

Howard,

Thoroughly enjoyable TR, really looking forward to next years!

Howard, thanks for a great TR and congrats on all of it.

Yeti - my fake nut allergy is exactly why I am sympathetic to HT's cause and tried to keep him alive by sending him to VLA instead of TGIF where Alolbar made him go. It should come as surprise to no one that HT started experiencing auditory hallucinations and immediately busted right after finishing his bowl of wheaties at TGIF.

Winning a bunch of money in the main event would be nice but now I just want Norman to read made-up facts from my ESPN questionnaire.

When I go in the main event, I am so going to do this. Getting to the point in the tournament where I get to fill it out possibly will be my stumbling point.

Great writeup HT. Definitely got me thinking about playing cards again.

@lbr: Those facts aren’t made up!

@chop: I’ll try the Venezuelan place in my next trip. I won’t do it on a tournament dinner break, though, just because it’s mildly too far away.

Great report. Almost sufficient to excuse the "no poker in OOT" violation that a long timer like yourself knows.

This was a bit heavy on the poker for OOT, I admit. I’ve written a number of these over the years, and tend to include a sufficient amount of my other material that OOT seems to have written me a semi-permanent pass on this point.

Also: a special thanks to the Ex-Milk Captain for running a twitch on the broadcast. I actually feel as though I let him down a bit by busting so early; this is another reason to have played the sevens differently.

That’s a good point. Playing the 7s that way almost fed Dr.Z a perma. Consider that next time.

Great TR Howard. Thanks for sharing. Pro move by delivering it in installments. It reminded me a lot of LeoDoc's.

Jmakin's live feed and subsequent rage on DZ made my day at work exponentially better.

One question remains, however: What was Babs' cut of your winnings? A WSOP Trip Report In Several Parts: TLDR

Great TR

@pokercastAdam has told me many times in the past that pocket sevens never lose.

He's sometimes correct.

The 2p2 Pokercast is the only other one I listen to. Alas, it seems to be fading away.

Finally caught up with this thread, read all parts at once. Very entertaining read, congrats on the great run. It was a lot of fun sweating you in jmakin's stream, although it didn't last for very long.

Thanks for the report!

One last thing: I did not give enough credit to Crazy Joe Davola, who was insanely helpful during the event. One day, for example, I was under a vent and started sneezing; CJD races off to a pharmacy and got me allergy meds.

Howard,

Since you seem to have parenting and poker figured out, do you have any wisdom on introducing your kids to poker or how to manage an interest in it should they develop one.

Heh, thanks. Neither one has shown any particular interest in it. Both will play gin rummy with me from time to time, but neither has a game addiction. I definitely have been addicted to hearts, rogue, wizardry, backgammon, chess, cribbage, gin, poker and probably some others I’m forgetting, but I don’t seem to have passed on those genes to either daughter.

If either expressed an interest, I’d sit them down with the AKQ toy game from the Math of Poker to get across a key concept that a fair number of intermediate players still do not understand: specifically that you must bet your strong hands and your weak hands, but not your intermediate ones. Real poker is obviously much more complex, but I see players all the time who think they’ve done something productive by betting a hand that is never getting called by worse and seeing it fold. That toy game makes this point well, and it’s utterly foundational to deeper concepts.

Thanks. I never heard of the AKQ game, but I'll check it out should the need arise. I'm kind of hoping it doesn't. It not them being bad at it that worries me the most. It's just that a lot of poker players find it hard to maintain a healthy balance between poker and everything else in life.
