Minnesota is a not-lose, not a win.

I got Massachusetts and considered it a win.

This is a deeply interesting question.

I was trying to think of two things: (1) What's the median state where it would be tough for any one person to figure whether you'd spin or just take it? My best-guess answer to this might be... Michigan?

==

I'm also curious to know: if we replace "Ohio" with "Nevada," how many hit the button for Nevada and eschew the spin?

I got California. I could probably find someplace there that I wouldn't hate.

Minnesota is wonderful. We lived there for four years and liked it MUCH better than we thought we would.

Ohio before kansas, kentucky, west virginia, new hampshire. You can follow the trail of hypodermic needles from one state to the next.

Unless you can't abide by snow or extreme heat, Nevada would be a snap-accept

I think the question is more interesting in Canada, and I'd probably say the baseline is probably Saskatchewan. This way you're rolling only to try and get BC, Alberta, Ontario or Quebec, but the nut low is hitting one of the territories. Smaller amount so the result could be way more polarized.

lolcanada tho amirite

Nevada is mostly horrible, but there are a few nice spots. I'd probably take Lake Tahoe over anything in Ohio, but random city in Nevada would be much worse than random city in Ohio.

It definitely changes the dynamics if you don’t get to choose where within a state.

Agreed on Tahoe. It's terrific. Don't know about living there. Vegas is also a consideration. But for me, I'd think long and hard about the spin.

Isn't Tahoe on the California side? My understanding is that to live in "Tahoe" while being in Nevada you have to live in Reno, which I assume is not a good thing.

The lake sits in both states, which is why Nevada is a no-brainer, IMO. You could live in Stateline which is where the casinos are on the south shore, or around Incline Village if you wanted the quieter north shore vibe.

There’s no stipulation about size of the city, so you could live in any of the small towns at Lake Tahoe on the Nevada side or in Carson City.

Idaho is beautiful. I've spent a tiny bit of time in boise and it seems pretty nice

I got Wyoming. Wouldn't be the top of my list, but I'm not disappointed, much preferable to ohio and the other garbage states

I have fond memories of Reno. In '92, I had just graduated college and was driving to Arizona to start my first real adult job. I stopped in Reno to stay the night. I met a cocktail waitress and left 6 months later.

Heck yeah, if we can afford to live around Jackson, it would be pretty great (at least until the supervolcano erupts)

If the supervolcano goes off, you’re not going to be safe in Ohio either. It just might take a little longer.

that must have been some crazy good puss! What was the job?

Reno and El Paso are two of the last cities I would ever want to live in.

Is there anything good about Oklahoma? I've only driven through - east to west on I-40 staying overnight in OKC. It was 114 when we got out of the car at about 8pm. Seemed like a hell-hole to me.

Aren't you from Texas? Not that you're wrong, but Texans just all hate Oklahoma, right?
