Whichever state you end up in, you can pick the city, so if you end up with Kentucky, you can choose to live in Louisville or Lexington and don't risk getting stuck in Harlan. If you choose Ohio, you also get to pick the city.

Follow up question: What is the median state for which you are indifferent between living there or in a randomly selected state? Feel free to factor in the gamble equity of the state selection.
Grunch, cliffs, disruption or something ..... but OP:

Where did this question first arise?

Could you do this poll for somewhere like Canada? Use Quebec as your singleton or if that's a bit to obvious maybe you'd have to go with New Brunswick.

Both of these would be absolute slam dunks for me, in opposite directions.

I suspect you might find some people ITT who have Quebec as literally the #1 province. I have it a close 2 behind BC. I'd snap take it in a heartbeat.

On the other hand I see no reason to live in New Brunswick. BC > Quebec >>> Ontario >>>>>> Alberta >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> anywhere else IMO. I would roll the dice to try to crack that top 4 if I were offered any other province.

No way am I ever settling for Alberta, probably not even if the territories are in play. I might even take NB to avoid risking Alberta.

Chatting with people I know from 2p2 but they're not OOTers so the discussion died after about 5 minutes.

There aren't enough provinces to make a Canadian version of the game interesting.

Canadians,

No one else is interested in a Nuck version of the game. Have some pride - you don't see the Limeys coming in here saying, "Oh, no, I spun the wheel and got Northumberland; should have just stuck with Derbyshire!"

England is the size of Alabama. What would they be complaining about, exactly? Can't they just take bus?

Isn't the habitable portion of Canada the size of Alabama as well?

Not nearly enough lol Quebec, especially if you don't speak French

If you have a job and can actually afford to live there BC >>>>>> everywhere else and it's really not close

BC >>> Ontario/Quebec > Alberta/Nova Scotia >> Man/SK/PEI/NB > Newfoundland >>>>> lol territories

I remember when I moved to canada, BC was literally the only livable option for me.

I went to winnipeg once, and holy hell, It reminded me of being in the south. Everyone was sooo ****ing fat. I also got a massive white trash florida vibe from the place. Like all the crazy articles in Canadian papers must start "A Manitoba man..."

If you only want to live in major cities, the habitable portion of the US is also about the size of Alabama.

It's probably a good place to ride out all the impending ecological catastrophes. After the apocalypse there will still be cockroaches and Newfies.

Wat. For me, it was actually a struggle to find a person under 40 who didn't have great English. My French was so so and I wanted to practice, but it was impossible b/c the people are friendly and switch immediately to English once they detect an accent.

I guess if you hate Montreal, then that's one thing (personally it's 1 of my top 3 cities in NA), but French shouldn't really have anything to do with it. It actually makes the city more interesting and unique, while still being super accessible for English only speakers.

Visiting Montreal is way different than living in Quebec (if that makes sense). Even twenty minutes outside of the city not knowing French is a huge pain in the ass. Plus French people are a different breed...

I'm not a fan of Montreal myself but can't argue that it's a world class city. If Montreal didn't exist Quebec would be just the worst.

I lived in Montreal a year and another 9 months in Longueuil.

I think if you take away Montreal then Quebec City is still worth not gambling on another province (even though it's a big leap down from MTL), but after that the rest of the cities seem pretty bad.

Just go to France, they start talking faster once they realize you’re a foreigner from a country they despise like England, the US or Germany.

That’s probably true for the majority of big touristy cities.

Don’t know if the game works for Canada, but I’m sure a European version could be created.

I did for a year and a half. The French are definitely a lot colder than the quebecois, but are a bit friendlier in Lyon where I stayed than Paris.

Those of you complaining about CoL in various places (mostly CA) are forgetting the rules.

Poland or spin?

It's much more of a nail biter when the range spreads from Luxembourg and Moldova.
