YMMV but I try to use c and u in my first or second guess often. I find it helps immensely if I get those letters (especially in the right order) early on and if not, I can rule out words with -ch, -ck and knock out q/u from the equation

Yep, quordle is the happy medium, sedecordle or whatever has 16 at once is overkill

Wordle told me that there was only one letter from the guess in the solution, and that it wouldn't be located in the third position (Worlde identifies this with a yellow color). I realized that letter is also in the name of another Stooge, however Wordle wouldn't accept that name as a guess! Very confusing. I then tried the name of the third stooge, but that name only had three letters and so wasn't an option either. After a few minutes of confusion I remembered the name of a fourth stooge, but that name wasn't accepted either. So either my premonition was incorrect or there were further stooges from films I don't remember. Luckily, I still have 5 more guesses so I can regroup and try it again later. Still lovin this game.

Thanks for the quordle tip - maybe I will try that later.
Glad to see that your comic genius survived that little covid era. You should post more, start more oot threads etc. Seriously!

The evolution of "whats the best opening word" has been one of the most interesting parts of wordle to me. After the initial "adieu" or "arose" or similar to find most common letters, linguistic specialists have been recommending more obscure words that find specific letter combos to narrow the word down faster; I found the same as you, but with the letter P for some reason. My go to opening word is now actually "spurt".

Hope everyone is playing on hard mode where you have to use any revealed letters from the previous word in your next guess, and in their proper spot if that was revealed

If you want to get super nerdy with it this video is fun.

Using a best opener is lame. Just pick a random word that pops into your mindgrapes.

I like starting with Puppy or Mamma to make it a little more challenging

I know what you mean. It's like in baseball where it would be so much more interesting if they just stuck the names of the entire team into a hat and pulled out today's starting pitcher. It would be awesome to see Altuve pitch.

Don't know any players so I cheated. Had it narrowed down to
Spoiler:
starting pitcher in NL West from Japan who bats and throws right and was able to google the only person it could be

the first day I tried heardle, it was a fleetwood mac song that I got immediately, and I was like this is the perfect game for me

it was a huge tease though, as every song after pretty much sucked

The worst is semantle

Just tried Heardle and they could have played the entire song for me and I wouldn't have guessed what it is

Heardle would be fun if 90% of the songs weren't completely awful.

Also got today in the first try. It helps when it isn't a song from 2021.

I can understand why people would go with adieu as the first guess to use 4 of the 5 vowels but I think it relies too heavily on vowel info.

My starting go-to is stare, and I average 50% in 3 and 50% in 4, with only twice going 5 and once going 6.

Brag: stare got me my first eagle today.

Wife got first guess yesterday using a starter word she'd never used before :/

During today's, I had a guess with all five letters on the board and all five out of place. Pretty sure I haven't run into that before.

Wife was pissed the other day because her first guess had nothing and her second was the word and she claims she was going to guess the second word first but changed her mind.

Has Wordle overtaken fantasy football talk as the worst possible casual conversation to have? Poker bad beats are probably king, but I avoid those people and would have no problem just walking away mid sentence if someone were to try to start one with me.

I charge people $5 to allow them to tell me a bad beat. Hasn't made me a lot of money but I haven't had to suffer through any stories either.

Haven’t played in a while so was pretty happy with this result. Took me a couple of minutes to even think of a word that fit for the second guess
