I have never base jumped with a wingsuit, but I have a class B skydiving license with 190 jumps. If you have any particular questions about it feel free to ask.

I also have 115 hours hang gliding, but that is another thing all together... :P

do you want to BASE jump? do you know any BASE jumpers? Do you have your own rig?

In theory yea i'd love to learn abit more about it and do one, but reality is im probably too much of a pussy to actually jump. I don't know any base jumpers hence why i've asked in a poker forum if anyone has any experiences to share and no I don't have my own rig.

I've just seen a vid on youtube where one of the worlds best at the time goes 120mph into a bridge, along with the reported deaths, the danger is obviously very real. I think i'd be more inclined to do it out of a plane or in a very open space to avoid crashing into any objects. One thing is for sure though, if you did have the balls to jump and landed safe there is probably very little that could compare with that rush....

Yeah wingsuiting seems really amazing ! I saw some videos and found it ****ing cool ! I'm probably going to do some skydiving soon and then decide from there if I wanna get into Base jumping or not. It must be such an amazing feeling to fly over mountains though.

It certaintly is very dangerous. You're kind of exagerating a lot though here. People like Jokke Sommer and Jeb Corliss have done well over 2000 BASE jumps from some seriously dangerous spots and even though I know Jeb Corliss has had a few accidents, they are both in one piece. Obv many have died, but the jumps they make are very calculated and they often have "exit" routes.

With all the new info and better and better rigs made, while still dangerous, wingsuit base jumping is not suicidal.

PS : Skydiving (not base jumping) is actually very safe nowdays.

Gotta be the ultimate E-ticket ride.

I can't imagine the mess when it goes wrong.

Why do they bother with helmuts?

There is a vid with the mess from when it does go wrong!

Jeb Corliss said in an interview he saw the guys stuff flying past him in the air and when he landed he saw the guys leg land on the floor. Now i'd think that'd be enough to put anyone off but obviously not as he's still jumping!

I guess the helmets are to protect their eyes and also any minor knocks becase they do get ridiculously close to stuff.

I've been skydiving a couple times and it didn't seem very dangerous.

I don't think comparing wingsuiting as a hobby to taking pills or cutting wrists is much of an exaggeration. Seems like almost 10% of these guys have already killed themselves and they probably aren't through yet and this sport is pretty new so there aren't a lot of retired survivors. Maybe as many as a third of these guys end up dying this way unless the mounting deaths start to cause people to change their minds. And, I don't know the stats, but the few people I've known who have taken pills or cut wrists have all survived - except for one guy who took pills and put a plastic bag over his head.

Tell that to the rest of the human population which doesn't include adrenaline junkies, thrill seekers and daredevils, and you'd officially be insane. lol

Probably for if you hit some piece of debris in the air, or a bird.

This is probably incalculable, but how dangerous do you guys really think this is? Assuming I don't do any crazy stuff like try to skim the edge of a mountain or the canopy of a forest.

I always thought this would be pretty safe if you jumped off the top of a huge bridge and had a boat in the water for you.

Is it weird that I think this sounds really fun but skydiving/bungee jumping kinda scare the hell out of me?

http://youtu.be/uFevi1qZyVo wow this is psycho status

KPowers that is the same as me, I really don't like the idea of skydiving/bungee jumping but would love to do this. I also agree with your view that it can't be that dangerous in an open place, although I don't know how true that statement is....

I think the wingsuit idea seems alot more appealing to me is because it looks alot more gracefull and your actually flying through the air rather than just dropping vertically down. Anyone know what speed you reach sky diving? I think these wingsuits you can get upto 120mph

I play alot of golf with a sky diving addict who has thousands of jumps under his belt. He told me that he would never wingsuit jump.

Wingsuit basejump or just wingsuit jump? I dont see the problem with just doing a normal dive with a wingsuit.

Normal wingsuit jumps, out of an airplane/heli, are almost as safe as skydiving. There is a slight increase of risk, but not by much.

The comparison between regular wingsuiting and base wingsuiting is incredible. It can be highly dangerous and those doing proximity jumping have the highest rate of death then almost any action sports that I can think of.

I know a few people who are really into skydiving and regular BASE and they say the wing-suit proximity base guys are basically the nosebleed cash players of the jumping off **** world. As in, when you first watch poker you think, "woah, i'm going to be playing 6 figure pots once I take up this game" whereas in reality you will probably **** around in the micros. Likewise , you watch these sort of youtube clips-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWfph3iNC-k (the shot around 1.30 is the scariest **** I have ever seen btw) and think "omg im going to drop everything, move to Norway in a campervan and jump off cliffs" when in reality you end up doing one tandem skydive because you don't have the dedication/time/mental problems to do what these guys do.

Since you know a lot, how good/bad is my idea to wingsuit off a bridge over a wideass river.

the dude who went into the bridge was one of the worlds best base jumpers but he way more of a wingsuit noob. Although the under the bridge stunt is fairly easy compared to some of the flight paths in the op vid

jumping off a bridge with a wingsuit would be pretty pointless. It takes them like 400-600 vertical feet just to get enough speed so the wingsuit will glide. I suppose if the bridge was over 1000 feet (don't even know what the tallest bridge is) then you might get a few seconds of flying.

If someone is serious about base jumping check out bridge day. Also the potato bridge is where you can make an easy first jump and the local police let you jump as long as you let them know first.
