Why do you have to talk to strangers when you sit in the aisle but not in the window seat?

I remember one time my wife and I missed a connection flight and they told us the next flight had two open seats but not next to each other. My wife was like “Oh, no!”, I was like “Oh, well..” and after my wife had walked away the lady behind the counter told me that’s the standard reaction from most couples that often leads to the wife being more upset about their husband not caring about sitting together than they were about missing the flight.

Why does that surprise you? But yes, guilty as charged. I was always sitting in the middle and let my wife pick window or aisle. The addition of a child to occupy the middle seat led to significantly more space for everyone and also solved the problem of having to fight for space in the overhead bin.
