It hanging upside down suggests that the diploma alone is not a joke. I mean if you had cereal box joke diploma or whatever you'd just hang it right side up over a mantle, somewhere someone would actually hang a real diploma. The joke is that you're taking the phony diploma seriously. Conversely, the humor in the actual situation comes from a prestigious diploma being hung in a disrespectful place/manner. Seriously you people who think it's reasonable to hold any assumption other than it being a college/university are ******ed.

as a result when someone says 'william and mary diploma', my first thoughts are:

1. william and mary is some sort of slang for a type of diploma. for example a wharton masters diploma? or a diploma from a school founded by two people named william and mary? or a diploma from a town which crosses state borders between a w state and an m state. or anything else.

the term fannie mac i believe is used in the stock exchange for example. a bunch of stuff like this is used in the military, in which its a colloquial slang used by a group of people to define something.

2. some sort of in joke that i dont know about. something similar to the mile-high club (BY THE WAY DESPITE THE CONTEXTUAL CLUES HERE THE MILE HIGH CLUB IS NOT ACTUALLY A CLUB). it could be something from an online community, a fastfood chain, or pretty much anything else.

3. some kind of diploma with two different colleges. maybe its a diploma with coursework split between a school called Williams, and another called St. Mary, and the diploma is popular enough that it has been given a nickname.

btw im somewhat interested in pursuing this with you/microbob, but any ******s that want to chip in can just save their sick one liners and pm me so i can stick them straight on ignore if they want.
i also ask you again seeing as you seem to be sticking to your story of diploma being a concrete contextual clue.

if i said that i slept with an 'xxx diploma' under my pillow would you actually think that was a real diploma from a college called xxx that you hadnt heard of?

i think a lot of you are also confusing intelligence with having heard of something.

for example, i doubt even 5% of you could name 5 collingwood players that will be in the grand final next weekend. that doesnt make any of you stupid.

holy ownage batman.

edit: BPM, you cant seriously be using that as an argument, can you? ^^^

I can guess that the grand final is some sporting event in which players from the school/team collingwood will be playing.

You arent stupid because you havent heard of W&M. There are obviously thousands of colleges I and everyone else have never heard of. As has been pointed out to you a million times, you are stupid because you apparently cant use simple and blatant clues to reach conclusions through basic reasoning.
09-20-2010 , 06:41 AM
gimmetheloot - are you seriously incapable of even reading the two posts above your own?

they arent even that long. should take you about 2 minutes.

get back to me.
09-20-2010 , 06:43 AM
also i think the count for 'stupid' people that agree with me itt is approaching double digits, not to mention the many others that dont want to post because they cant be bothered dealing with the ******ed troll onslaught that will follow.

also the collingwood example had absolutely zero to do with contextual clues and was in no way intended to be analogous to the original argument.

i said name 5 players.

or do you really have absolutely zero reading comprehension.
09-20-2010 , 06:46 AM
anyone else want to step up and get owned?

i consider this a fun batting practise and ootiots are the balls.
09-20-2010 , 06:56 AM
wtf is a collingwood?!
09-20-2010 , 06:58 AM
for the contextual clues, I'm guessing a kind of tree
09-20-2010 , 06:59 AM
aha actually i suddenly understand the closed minded perspective a little better, because it seems incredibly obvious to me that given the context clues of me bringing it up, and it being a grand final, that its obviously not going to be a school.

and yet that last troll was 'stupid' enough to think it was likely to be a school.
09-20-2010 , 07:02 AM
well wtf is a collingwood?

is it some kind of nerd thing?
09-20-2010 , 07:18 AM
Personally i think ootard works better than ootiot.

this thread is getting boring now. i agree to leave the topic alone unless others provoke me further.

the first problem is that the argument is really really silly. its about how appropriate a question asked by me when i was likely drunk 3 years ago was.

the second problem is that ive logically decimated anyone that has criticised me and as a result they are all too chicken **** to return. noone with reading comprehension is even capable of continuing this. as a result the trolls are continuous new blood ootards (thanks phill) that havent even bothered to read why im correct.

its a shame because i havent been on 2+2 for any length of time for ages, and havent been in an argument for probably years, so i was really enjoying owning idiots for a while. i will try to pick a better spot next time. or maybe i should just find the time to sign up for a ww game and fight the old fashioned way.

Pure speculation on my part (I can't be bothered to google the history on a horse that was dead 3 years ago), but maybe it was called "College of King William and Queen Mary" when it was founded. But then maybe something happened and it became less popular to name things after kings and queens in the place where the college was....

You make a mistake 3 years ago. Some would say it's silly. The real insight into your personality is not just the way you attack the people giving you a (mostly) good-natured hard time about it, but the way you use straw men and ad hominems to defend your argument, and posit that this is somehow a US vs. UK thing.

People wouldn't think you were a ****** if you'd just gone 'oh. well, I don't think the context made sense in the story as told, so I disagree.' Your reaction makes people think you're a ******. Your inability to see it from another point of view (which you point out in everyone else) makes you a ******.

I can see how an intelligent person who hasn't heard of William and Mary might make the first few posts you made. It's much harder to see how an intelligent person makes the rest.

If we all put the people who thought we were ******ed on ignore, 2+2 would be a lonely place.
09-20-2010 , 08:55 AM
soah - yeah i must have been drunk. you can kind of tell by my typing style and use of 'nerd' anyway.

had i actually taken in that post and still asked the question the second time then yeah i concede that would have been dumb.

actually this post only demonstrates yourself as a ******.

it is other people that are failing to see my point of view and attacking me for it.

as i said, its getting boring owning you noob morons that havent read the thread so ill just leave it at that. congrats on probably having the least reading comprehension of anyone in the thread thus far tho.
09-20-2010 , 09:03 AM
btw the above troll is pretty much the definition of an ootard.

sees someone being attacked by multiple ppl in oot and with a massive **** eating grin tries to jump in and join in the fun. only problem is this guy is too ****ing stupid to even throw insults without making himself look unbelievably dumb.
09-20-2010 , 09:03 AM
I feel bad for editing my post to be less harsh.

NO U R THE NOOB MORON
09-20-2010 , 09:05 AM
