Since reading up on octopi intelligencea year or two ago I have become much more uneasy about eating them. On those occasions where I end up ordering calamari or something I tell myself it's either small, stupid octopi instead of the smart ones, or it's not octopus at all but pork bung.

My own arbitrary line is sentience.

Looks to me like they don't have the budget for a turtle surgeon. They definitely would have gotten imaging at a first rate turtle hospital.

Yeah I doubt they have enough money to shell out for something like that.

I have upset a few people by wearing this shirt. It is questionable if it is true.

Pigs are hella smart, though?

More airline weirdness: the woman sitting next to me has a pet carrier under the seat in front of her, which has been emanating soft, consistent chirping sounds for five hours. I think it is a soundtrack to soothe her ESA. It’s goddamned annoying.

It's probably the ESA's support bird.

I believe octopi are perfectly intelligent and that won’t stop me from eating them. I recognize the potential moral inconsistency here.

The guy with the NASA bag two seats over is also visibly pissed at it. I calmed down by removing my shoes and putting on my headphones to soothing music that overwhelms the birdy noise.

If the woman starts screaming that her bird died you should consider that a canary in the coal mine moment for your shoe policy.

It’s actually an Ersatz Support Animal and its battery is running down

White poodle in a bag with a chirping sound that clearly was not the dog. Just plain weird.
05-20-2018 , 04:09 PM
soft chirping noise is better than listening to the dog yap for 5 hours though, right? it's a shame the The Kingpin doesn't post here anymore. he could tell us exactly what was going on there.

JT,

I don’t get the shirt.

This American Life did a story about dopplegangers that mentioned a story about a meat plant selling pig intestines as calamari. I didn't listen to the story, just googled it.

The legend is a reporter on a tour of a meat packing plant spotted boxes containing last foot or so of the intestine right to the rectum. They were told it was sold as imitation calamari. Difficult to verify but they even ran a taste test in the show and it passed fairly well.

No way I was clicking on that turtle video. I already use reusable straws ****ers

So one of the disappointing aspects of having joined 2p2 at a later date is not always understanding why people hate each other.

Rexx,

Post some names and we can fill you in!

Maybe a straw up the nose is like eating Tide pods for millennial turtles and that dumbass deserved it.

Ok I'm having a mental block now. Oh wait. Loco and Thremp, actually no that probably doesn't need an explanation. What about Fabian and Dominic? Is there past history there?
05-21-2018 , 04:46 AM
I believe 99.99% of the forum has a problem with Thremp, and the remaining .01% knows him irl and pities him.

I don't think there's any hate between Fabian and Dom. Fabian is just a huge nit when it comes to modern media and also likes to (usually very accurately and scathingly) point out other's foibles. One of Dom's foibles happens to be that he is unable to differentiate between what he considers a spoiler and what a huge spoiler nit like Fabian would consider a spoiler.

I’m almost sure that Thremp’s disapproval rate isn’t this high, even if it should be.

Rexx,

There's no particular hate, but Dom has been a pretty bad poster (with some positive qualities) for many years. Dominic is a pretty dumb guy (nothing wrong with that) who thinks he's really smart (nothing wrong with that) and is really arrogant about it. It's that last part, especially in combination with the first two parts, that tends to put people in the "bad poster" category for me. He's in the David Sklansky/nunnehi category of posters, albeit a lighter version for sure.

Bgp,

The spoiler itself wasn't a big deal at all, barely worth commenting on (and indeed I didn't the first time I read it). I was commenting on Dominic's way of responding to Rexx (and later me), which was really bad imo.
05-21-2018 , 06:22 AM
I consider Dom to be a consistently enjoyable poster.
05-21-2018 , 06:33 AM
Same. He's funny, easygoing, posts some good laughs and is very graceful about being on the receiving end of jokes (which he often is since he's been so open about his personal life).

Fabian, that part addressed to Rexx I am surprised is about Dom and not Thremp.

LKJ, I originally only wrote 99%, but then upped it to 99.9% and again to 99.99% because I thought I was being too generous to Thremp. Even a lot of posters who are cordial when posting with Thremp do not like him and wish he was banned. When I did ban him last month the overall consensus was disappointment upon learning it was not a permaban, although there was one person who stated something along the lines of "I will miss his ridiculous aspiness" so I guess maybe he has some fans. If his disapproval rating is not as high as I think it is, I hope it's due to the fact that most of the posters do not know who he is since he's largely confined to H&F's permaban sanctuary.
