Ice water? That’s also in the no-straw category for me.

Straw use in only acceptable when drinking something from a fast food place.

Q: Why do people use drinking straws?

A: Because they are too lazy to lift the bottle up and drink it. Without lifting the bottle, there is no way you can drink it by applying the vaccum through your mouth, we normally apply while drinking through a straw. If we apply vaccum directly to the opening of the bottle, it would not be sufficient for sucking the water up, considering all the friction it has to overcome while getting sucked. The straws provide a very smooth surface and a constant cross sectional area (which is not present in case of the bottle) through which you can apply lesser amount of vaccum to suck the same liquid up.

Straws are necessary to protect your teeth when drinking some corrosive substance. It’s either drink iced water from now until the end of time or make your peace with plastic straws.

Drinking straws are a childhood's dream for me. In Kasachstan it was super difficult to get them. That made sucking the limo through the straw or blasting some air back in the liquid into a special experience. Limo tasted immediately 10 times as good through the straw like without. And clearly the plastic throw away straws were washed and reused.

But I don't remember using any in the last 10 years of my life.

Borat?

I use them exclusively for drinks which are covered by plastic and need to be pierced by a straw in order to drink. Not so uncommon in Asia.

This gave me a good natured chuckle. Limo=limousine, I assume you mean lemonade? Or maybe I’m the ignorant one here and limo is a drink?

LOL, Tx

I meant lemonade.

Note to self: not every slang is directly transferable from German.
In German limo is standard for lemonade.

Chop,

I have some of those stainless steel straws. I don't use straws all that often but if I am going to drink soda it will be sugary and therefore I want to try and save my teeth as much as I can.

Lapka,

I thought limo stood for lime which was my favourite cordial as a kid. Although my mum refused to buy cordial so I had to hope for it at friends places.

All,

Would you take offence if a friend randomly gifted you with some stainless steel straws?

I use the glass straws a lot probably because I have them. Even for ice water but especially for iced mineral water. Back when I have a producing grapefruit tree this was my spring drink of choice for them.

Me too, because I moved and left it behind. Those were the best grapefruits I have ever had and it produced a few hundred of them each season.

I planted one at my new house but it won’t produce for another few years.

Rexx,

No offense would be taken, but those metal straws are just for milkshakes.

Johnny’s glass straws seem pretty cool tho.

Glass straws seem superior to steel straws in almost every non-travel usage scenario.

What's the problem with regular old disposable straws again?

Damn spoiled kids.

When I was a kid all we had were paper straws--and no flexible bends. Times were hard.

Pigged out on a delicious taro milk tea with boba yesterday.

I agree regarding the glass straws. Time to make a double purchase.
