Quit smoking and then maybe you'll be able to taste the subtle differences between pasta varieties. I mean, ****, doesn't everything you eat taste like a gotdamn Marlboro Light?

No, it tastes more like the Cookie Dough Indica that's my current fave.

I can live with the fettucinis and linguinis just fine. Rotini and fusilli can chill too.

That's been a real problem. I've lost 50 lbs in the last year and every fall off of the wagon has either been pizza or pasta.

Congratulations Howard You have every reason to be hating on pasta if it's a weakness but a 50 pound weight loss in a year should not to be written off as a bad year!

My favourite is tortiglioni. All the joy of rigatoni but with grooves to grasp that sauce.

I've stuck to a not extreme version of Atkins. Plenty to eat, not a problem there, but, damn, do I want a bowl of spaghetti every now and then. More like a year and a half now that I think about it.

Spaghetti and meatballs

Would those be as good if you used elbow macaroni as the pasta for all of them?

How about macaroni and cheese? Do you think it would be just as good with spaghetti noodles?
Yes, yes, yes.

Doesn't cooking time determine whether pasta is al dente or melt in your mouth?

This post reminded me that my dad makes a penne with cheese sauce, he thinks its better for holding the sauce than macaroni. IDK, its pretty good.

I are so confused.

On a version of Atkins, yet railing against the numerous types of pasta?

What is next? Venting about the wide variety of breads available?

Edited to add: Congrats on the weight loss!

Thanks! Bread's different, though. OTOH, maybe I'll wait 6 months and do the same thread for bread.

Or you start exercising and eat as much pasta and pizza as you want.

Exercise does extremely little for weight loss. Caloric restriction also does very little for long term weight loss. Eat less move more has been pretty much definitively shown to be a bs strategy for long term weight loss.

So you think it is impossible to lose weight?

No, intermittent fasting and reducing insulin works.

Wrong. Pretty much every study that was done on eat less move more trying to prove it actually showed it doesn't work. Read some of Dr. Fung's work, such as The Obesity Code -- it's really a great piece of work. He explains everything very well and backs up pretty much every point he makes with references to peer reviewed studies.

Seems like Howard lost a significant amount of weight, and he didn't mention anything about intermittent fasting or insulin...

All caloric restriction alone does is ruin your metabolism.

Yes, it boils down to calories in calories out -- but calories out isn't static.

There's a reason almost everyone that loses weight by eating less ends up gaining it back (and often a bit more).
