O.A.K,

The point is that if someone had drunk industrial piss all their lives and wanted a really unchallenging beer to transition onto proper beer that would be accessible to their utterly undeveloped and brutalised palate, you would say IPA and Belgian beer. They are both still infinitely better than industrial piss.
They are both great and I love me sum, but they dont require any sophistication to enjoy. Its funny to see Yank beer snobs going on about IPA and Belgian beer.
Why don't you go ahead and tell us which breweries you visited, or tried beer from, when you were here. Anheuser-Busch?Because everything you're saying is totally wrong.
Lots of breweries make a variety of Belgian style beer, but generic Belgian brews are really not anyones of idea of awesome beer here. And while lots of Americans do enjoy IPA's, (and American breweries do make some really tasty ones), that is only a tiny fraction of the styles that lots of American brewers are very good at making.
Believe it or not, we have beer with lots of nuance and flavor depth that can satisfy even the most sophisticated euro palates, in addition to the watered down light rice beer that you think everyone here craves!
