The Peppers w/o John Frusciante isn't all that good. He quit, came back, and quit again, plus Anthony Kiedis lost his voice. They really sound horrible today.

I guess you could make this argument. The English bands took a small subset of the blues and designed their sound around the few albums that made it overseas.
It's like listening to Radiohead, The Cure, Gorillaz, Imogen Heap, and Dido, designing your sound around that, and saying your music is based on music from England. What about Blur, James, Tricky, Frou Frou, Unkle, Faithless...?
