Why America is Great. Why America is Great.

On this July 4th, America turns 242. I disagree that we need to make America great again, because it already was. This is a thread to list the things, big or small, that you feel are examples of that.

To get things started...

Beer.

You can get any kind of beer here. And of very high quality. I've been to Ireland and Germany, and our beer scene blows them away. You go to any decent bar in this country, and you can choose from a huge variety of beers from stouts and IPAs, to pilsners and shandys. And the quality is tremendous. Our brewmasters work very hard to make exceptional beverages and are constantly trying new things.

American beer used to be a joke. I would put our beer up against any in the world now.

The Grand Canyon.

I like to visit places that show our world's natural wonders. And of all the places I've been, the Grand Canyon blows them all away. Pictures just cannot do it justice. When you're standing on the rim, it's hard to grasp the enormity of what is laid out in front of you. 277 miles long, 18 miles wide at some points, and a mile deep. It is breathtakingly beautiful.

If you have never been there, it needs to be on your bucket list.

I'll be out so I'm just going to post it now, but pretend I posted it in about 50 posts so that it actually fits.

Should accidents of geography count?

Like Lake Baikal is arguably even more impressive, but it doesn't make up for Russia sucking.

Probably the worst of all the western democracies but meh still pretty cool. At least on the coastal states.

Gonna BBQ and drink it up anyways. Bitter sweet holiday as I love fireworks but they freak my dog out big time. Got some medicine from the vet, acepromazine. I used it a couple nights ago as a test run. It completely zonks her out. But I read up about it and it says it does nothing to calm her anxiety or fear, just sedates her a ton. They make it sound like it just paralyzes them awake and they still experience all the fear. That sounds awful so don't think I'm going to use it.

My dog is generally pretty nervous, but fireworks don't phase her a bit. Strange imo.

No celebrating for me today. I'm glad I live in California at least.

Actually I am . Being fun at parties is one of my better traits. Last week I went to a forest festival and dropped acid with a bunch of friends and danced in a girls skin type yoga pants and a prince-esque blouse.

Lucky. It's really stressful dealing with them during this time. They get insane freaked out. I'm building her a fort under my computer desk as that's her favorite place. Bunch of blankets covering it, her doggy bed, and I'm gonna crank up some soothing noises.

Why no celebrating? And same, Southern Cali here.

I enjoy the typical self-delusion of USA#1ers in these threads, but in the spirit of July 4th I offer you one clear way that America is greater than the rest of the world:

Seems pretty strange to measure the greatness of a Space program by a small arbitrary list of "Firsts" that all happened 50 years ago...
