OAF,

That’s a decent take on much of the American craft brew scene of 10 years ago.

Its why there is such an obsession with hoppy IPA's etc because this is exactly how Hoppy IPA's work and why Yanklandians talk so much about Belgian beers, which whilst having more subtlety are very accessible, obvious and apparent in there flavour profile. Which is why in Europecultureland, Belgian beers are so popular with women.

So American beer is basically borish yanks untypically boasting about their greatness because their colonial palates are too one dimensional to appreciate the beers of older culturally superior nations.
Wrong thread.

I've been pretty much everywhere in Europe including Germany, also lolusa, Canada etc, and nothing compares to belgian beers.

Many of those are 7-10° though, I don't think 'muricans can take it, too used to drink watered down canned piss !
Belgium beer and Belgium chocolate!

I’ll gladly accept blame for my part in this but I’d like it clearly noted in the case file that when talking about gun crime and was met with fatty foods and bears at your doorstep I chose to walk away quietly

Because Murica ****ed up their counties so much that now people have to flee to the nearest country the USA hasn't completely ****ed up (yet).

Turkey hosts the more refugees. In Lebanon, 1 in 6 people are refugees.

Yanks are well known around the world for being modest, so when they boast it is both untypical and uncharacteristic.

Not sure if the lol u is for missing the most obvious of sarcasm or not understanding the Queens English.

Probably both.

The point is that if someone had drunk industrial piss all their lives and wanted a really unchallenging beer to transition onto proper beer that would be accessible to their utterly undeveloped and brutalised palate, you would say IPA and Belgian beer. They are both still infinitely better than industrial piss.

They are both great and I love me sum, but they dont require any sophistication to enjoy. Its funny to see Yank beer snobs going on about IPA and Belgian beer.

OAF,

What are your top few favorite beers and beer styles?

I do want to say in balance that Yanklandia is light years ahead at making solid beer offering widely available and accessible in the market.

If you came to Penzance Cornwall, where I live as a tourist it would take an incredible fluke for you to end up in The Star, a pub in Crowlas, that makes one the best beers in the country. Even if you went out of your way and hit the googles before hand, it probably would not happen.

I think this greatly colours the views of Yanklandians when they travel, good beer can be a lot more underground in other countries.

OAF,

As an example of what the American beer scene is like these days, here’s some of the beer variety I have to choose from just within a couple blocks from my house:

http://citybeerstore.com/menu/
https://blackhammerbrewing.com/on-tap/
https://www.cellarmakerbrewing.com/tap-list/
http://www.mikkellerbar.com/sf/ontap.html
http://localbrewingco.com/beer/

And that’s just a small sampling. If you bother to look, you’ll see that as I said earlier, your idea of the American craft scene being all about big hoppy IPAs is like 10 years behind the times.

Why don't you go ahead and tell us which breweries you visited, or tried beer from, when you were here. Anheuser-Busch?Because everything you're saying is totally wrong.
Lots of breweries make a variety of Belgian style beer, but generic Belgian brews are really not anyones of idea of awesome beer here. And while lots of Americans do enjoy IPA's, (and American breweries do make some really tasty ones), that is only a tiny fraction of the styles that lots of American brewers are very good at making.

Believe it or not, we have beer with lots of nuance and flavor depth that can satisfy even the most sophisticated euro palates, in addition to the watered down light rice beer that you think everyone here craves!
