They did not get back to us yet. The glutton in me wants to ask them.

As always the correct thing here is obviously to pay because it's the right thing to do, and sure if the shoe were on the other foot, you wouldn't ask him to pay, that's cool and nice of you, and what I would probably do as well. But I think we shouldn't judge too harshly here. Maybe the repair is a lot of money for them, maybe they just took a lot of pride in their van, etc. etc..

But your 'whatever is most supportive of my wife' plan is by far what's correct.

Maybe they realized how stupid they are being and just arent going to do anything about it?

Even better, maybe he took it somewhere and they laughed at him! (I can dream)

Lol. Well I said to my wife “I guess we never heard back about that van thing” and she said “No we did. I didn’t want to stress you out before our trip.”

They sent a quote for $1,100. My wife apparently does have a friend of a friend with a body shop who said he’d do it for $75 plus paint.

I know what the right thing to do is but it’s really tempting to say **** them. I want to see their stupid ****ing van and it better be immaculate front to back.

$75 plus maybe another $75 for paint materials would be about right for a friend's estimate.

Lol @$1100. For that much, our shop could replace the lift gate handle and paint the entire lift gate, plus blend into the rear bumper, roof, and both quarter panels. Ridiculous, unless your wife managed to crack the glass in the lift gate or somehow mess up the auto close electronics - unlikely, from the pictures you posted.

The right thing to do is to say **** them!

Id make them get more estimates at the very least. Probably looking to just profit off you as well.

I wouldn’t pay that. If they want that treatment they can go through their ****ing insurance and send me the bill for the deductible.

$1100 is almost certainly above their deductible and you’re now in the area where you’re neither morally or legally obligated to pay that amount.

I’m ****ing irritated for you and I have no skin in the game.

Before pics this was a pretty standard bad beat.

Since pics, paying 1100 for this is completely absurd.

Johnny,

If you end up paying, can you PM their address. It would bring me great pleasure to key the living **** out of their ****ty van after it gets painted.

Make sure they don't fix that chipped paint on the right side of the handle. You're not responsible for that.

Yeah those scratches look like they're only in the clear coat. You should get the estimate and post it here. It has to be a hilarious read to get to $1100.

You've obviously got the right to ask for another couple of quotes. That's ridiculously high. I guess it depends on how your wife feels though.

Over 10 hours of labor?!
What the ****ing ****?

You need to paste that estimate and the "damage" pics all over your wife's social media and publicly shame those minivan driving *******s into oblivion.
