Hello

So you're spending a long weekend with just your SO and you've had all the serious conversation about family matters and friend news, world happenings etc and you've arrived at the 'Inane Chatter' stage, perhaps cuddling in bed or out on a walk or whatnot. The seemingly innocuous but fundamentally critical garblings that can make or break a relationship in my opinion!

Do you have any favourites for this? It might be something silly like 'Would you rather' (have wheels for hands or wheels for feet etc), or something random but practical like 'What's your fave... pasta shape (eg) and why' or whatever else that doesn't fit the bill of priority conversation.

Would be interested to hear ideas and how they add to the fabric of your relationship.

Every woman that I've ever been in a relationship w/ has wanted to talk about whether her ass looked too big in her outfit.

What added to the fabric of our relationship was me lying.

There are no favorites, only least favorites. Least favorite has got to be which of her friends is fighting with which of her other friends, and the details thereof.

Generally prefer to avoid inane chatter, though the weird hypotheticals option sounds more amusing than inane.

As long as it's not gossip, especially not celebrity or "reality" TV gossip, I'm probably OK.

I talk about tons of random ****, hypotheticals, etc with (to is probably more fitting than with) my old lady. She's a good sport.

The reason I made this thread is I always seem to get to points during some weekend in relationships where I've said all the main stuff there is to say and I'm trying to keep the conversational momentum going.

Maybe it's just I don't usually have enough in common with the girls I date though, I don't know. I've spoken to a lot of friends that say connecting with their girlfriend through the meaningless chatter rather than the big issue stuff gets them through the day to day toil of relationships . Probably shouldn't have used the word 'inane'.

maybe I'm not communicating this very well, I feel like people just saw the word inane and thought why would I want to talk about inane things

Hm..... I prefer not communicating at all than communicating about nothing. But I have always been doing a lot of stuff with SO. Last time i had weekend relationship: grocery shopping, cooking, working out, going to party/concert/festival, kicking his butt that he helps me to do something, he can do better than me ( installing something, repairing my bike....), few hours everyone could fill with something that doesn't require SO. Somehow there was never enough empty time.

My bf and I talk about ridiculous hypotheticals on occasion just because we like a laugh. What superpower would you pick? If you were all powerful what would you do? If you could bring five beings back to life who would they be? If you could take out one person who would it be? If you could be immortal would you and why? The list goes on.

Other topics we tolerate from each other are family dramas, more me than him. Politics, more him than me. Gardening, more me than him. Sport, more him than me. Cooking, both fairly equally which is somewhat annoying as I do most of the cooking. Environmental issues/strategy, me more than him. I realise not all these things are inane per se but we have been together over 20 years so something is working.

She talks about whatever... I mainly say ****ed up stuff to make her laugh. If you're not laughing with each other then it's time to move on imo.

I once had 45 minutes of pillow talk about the drama at her hair salon. Sally stole Suzie's squeeze bottle and apparently it was a whole big thing. Enough of a thing to talk about for 45 minutes apparently. After that I just pretend to go to sleep straight away.

Me and my missus were in bed cuddling the other night and I wanted to get it on. She said that I had to woo her, so I did a really loud Ric Flair "WOOOOOOOOOOOOO" and woke up our housemates.

Did not get laid

Repeating stupid **** that our children say.

Like one time I was carrying my son through a restaurant with my wife a few steps behind me, and he yelled out, "MOMMY YOU DON'T HAVE A PENIS!"

Indoor voice, buddy. Indoor voice.

We'll have conversations about stuff like who would do better in a zombie Apocalypse, me or her, or what era would you least like to live in (1600s Puritans)
