When I went to Europe, I was always pissed that when I asked for a glass of water, it was always some seltzer, carbonated sh*t.

I finally learned you needed to ask for "water-no gas".

Wtf?

LOL at "far colder than necessary".

This. Gtfo. If it aint a block of ice, it's not too cold.

I put all my bottled/canned beverages in the freezer for 20-30 minutes before consumption.

If you wrap a wet paper towel around any can or bottle and put it in the freezer it will go from room temperature to ice cold in about 10-15 minutes.

Edit...mythbusters used fancy temperature gauges and said this is false but I have personally done it and it works. **** your thermistor.

Soft drinks are almost free here. Fairly regular to find 32oz for $1, and refills are (more often than not) free.

We get free ice with our almost free soft drinks. Hardly a scam.

We are fat because it would make no economic sense for us to pass up such deals.

Yeah, those restaurants and their free refills of watered down scam!

For everywhere else, that's why our **** comes in 64oz containers

Your free to be a frugal weirdo and ask for no ice and then go home and ice so you can get max value....or you could just buy a 2 liter for even cheaper.

I'm fine with giving up a few pennies worth of soda so that I can have ice cold delicious beverage.

Ice melts and waters down the drink.

It’s not liquor. You can get more of it at no cost. It’s more enjoyable with ice anyway.

How does ice make it tastier? It's still cold.

There isn't just some dividing line where a certain range of temperatures is simply "hot" or "cold" and then all temperatures within that range taste equally good or bad. Different temperatures that fall into "cold" still taste different from each other.

the arc of cold bends toward just ice

Five Guys is pretty legit I have to say. Amazing milkshakes too.

At McDonald's, where you yes can get a large soft drink for $1, you can ask for LIGHT ICE in your drink. It's actually a thing that they have a button for and it shows up on your receipt which results in you getting more of your delicious beverage.

As much as I'm happy to stand with my fellow Euros under the banner of the freak and the very weird dude, I did mean a bottle.

But yeah i'm with the Americans on the ice cubes debate, and now after giving it all of two minutes thought, I'm thinking four ice cubes is optimal in terms of cooling it to the desired temp quickly without making it too watery. My preference is as cold as possible for anything carbonated.

Except for scotch, please don't put ice in scotch.

Also, after the discussion around the collective noun for a group of kraken(krakii ftw) I watched a video today on the subject and apparently these collective nouns were first recorded in the editions of the Book of St Albans and was must have knowledge for the aristocracy, lest they make themselves look foolish whilst out hunting. Quite an interesting history, maybe better suited for the Wiki thread.

I've discovered through much experience, that a small, round piece of ice (about the size of a standard marble) is perfect for 2 oz. of Scotch.

Keeping in mind that 2 oz. of Scotch doesn't last long in RoundGuy's glass.

I'm going to get slow ponied here for sure, but a 33F soda -- or beer -- is orders of magnitude better than the same drink at 40F. This is something all good children know.
