Not really. I mean they can get off the ground but they don't fly like a traditional bird or airplane.

I'm fairly confident it comes down to the particular type of chicken. We have like 4-5 different types of chickens so we get a decent variety. My favorite are the light blue ones.

FTR - I don't know a whole lot about the chickens and don't interact with them a ton (my gf's daughter does pretty much everything, feeding, cleaning the coup, grabbing the eggs, etc).

I do think it's kind of messed up they feed them the leftover eggs (usually scrambled) but apparently it's good for them and they seem to love it. I dunno, maybe it's just me...

if the girlfriend made an ultimatum to either get rid or her or those sweet egg laying birds, which would you choose?

Yep. They can fly just enough to make them a little difficult to catch.

When I was a kid I got a few dyed chicks one year at Easter because that was the barbaric thing to do back then. My parents (mostly my mother, who had some farm life in her childhood) thought it would be good experience for me to raise them, get the eggs, etc.

Like most kid things, it was fun. For a while. That is when I first learned the phrase "having your wings clipped," what it meant, why it was a thing, and doing it. It made those chickens a lot easier to corral when they got out of their pen. My most vivid memory of that episode of my life was my rooster pecking my next-door neighbor friend in the dick. He didn't think it was nearly as funny as the rest of us did!

In the rooster's defense, he was only pecking a pecker.

Spoiler:
I hated that effin' rooster. He was mean as hell.

I didn't know what word it was meant to be, but nothing was lost in translation.

When I heard the amount of the winning bid at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo (or whatever it's called) one year, it took me a while to figure out why anyone would pay that much for a steer.
