What's the deal with cereal? What's the deal with cereal?

One thing I noticed was that Alpha Bits and Crispy Critters were basically the same thing in different shapes. And Honeycomb was almost the same too, just slightly sweeter. All made by Post of course.

I remember I was always a Sugar Crisp man, even after they changed it to Super Sugar Crisp. (Sugar Bear commercials were a Dean Martin homage btw) But by the time they made it Super Golden Crisp - ixnay on the ugarshay! - I'd grown up to bacon and eggs.

No nutritional value?! Even things like Reese's Puffs have a slew of nutrients.

I like Grape Nuts but buy the generic store brand, it is $2 cheaper and I can't tell the difference.

It is the Geritol of cereals...but I am old.

I like basically everything but Grape Nuts, though its been over 20 years since I dare tried.

I saw these a couple days ago, intriguing.
These are good. I eat a bowl of cereal every day.
When I open a new box, I mixed it with whatever is left it the big plastic container that I use, then I mix it up and pour in a bowl. I add a banana, powdered peanut butter, walnuts, honey, and milk. In the summer I add some blueberries that I grow.

I'm a serious, serial cereal eater...

Sounds great!

Picturing you eating Cinnamon Toast Churros is hilarious.

Cherrios are in my top 3 along with Puffed Rice and Alphabets. Corn
flakes, Oatmeal (some moods have it at #1), Lucky Charms. and Honeycomb
are near the top.

When I was a kid, I think cereal boxes taught me how to read.

They changed the Honeycomb recipe a couple of years ago and I wrote to complain and they reverted to the original a few months later. yw

Grape nuts - best when heated with milk and drizzled with honey.

I'm also a big fan of the basics. Give me a solid bowl of Corn Flakes or Wheaties any day. Honorary shout outs to Cheerios and Rice Krispies.

Corn Flakes is definitely a mainstay on my cereal shelf. I think I mostly enjoy them because I can eat three bowls and not feel terrible.

I do. I'm used to pouring the milk first, not really sure why. I didn't realize how much sugar most of the cereals have before I switched to my current cereal. I now eat high fiber ones from Trader Joes that look like pellets.

Drop that spoon! The truth about breakfast cereals

Quote:
The rise of breakfast cereal makes a revealing case study in the evolutionary process behind the modern diet. One of the earliest convenience foods, processed cereals represents a triumph of marketing, packaging and US economic and foreign policy. They are the epitome of cheap commodity converted by manufacturing to higher value goods; of agricultural surplus turned into profitable export. Their ingredients have a disconcerting overlap with my cat food. Somehow they have wormed into our confused consciousness as intrinsically healthy when by and large they are degraded foods that have to have any goodness artificially restored.

Special K protein + half a scoop of ON triple chocolate + some chocolate chips + cup of whole fat milk + couple packets of stevia = my healthy on paper morning cereal.

If I am lazy, Special K chocolate delight + whole fat milk + half a scoop of ON and I still get a reasonable 20g of protein in ~400 calories.
