What's the deal with cereal? What's the deal with cereal?

I used to get the variety packs of the instant Quaker Oats back in the day. They had 4 varieties: strawberry & cream, bananas & cream, peaches & cream, and maple sugar. The peaches were the worst so ofc there'd always be slightly more of those. Pretty good but the oats were totally letting the sugar do all the flavor work.

My hardcore health-nut parents used to do the raw oats thing and add their own raisins, slivered almonds, walnuts, flax seed, and chia seeds. But in their late 80s now and losing their edge, they now default to plain Cheerios as a base.

kioshk, by memory i believe you're omitting apples & cinnamon and cinnamon & spice. not sure your timeframe for 'back in the day', but mine is 35+ years ago.

Yeah I misremembered that. The thing is they had an all fruit and cream box and a different box with apples and cinnamon etc., that's where the maple sugar one was. The 4th fruit kind was blueberries and cream.

That cereal looks very alluring.

I had some frosted mini wheats the other night for a late night snack. #DELISH

I was aware of the churros but haven't sampled yet. I'm sure they're great.

They're so big and create a real spanish churro like texture after the milk soak. Crunchy on the outside, slightly chewy on the inside. They nailed it. This was a Korean bodega buy near me and I only saw it once. Their ramen and japanese/korean snack selection is nuts and every now and then I'll see a cereal that I've never seen before.

I haven't eaten cereal in a long time, but have there been any upgrades or improvements on Lucky Charms, the GOAT cereal?

Out of all the cereals ITT that aren't available in the UK at a price that isn't bordering on extortionate, this is the one I want to try the most.

I will continue to try healthier versions, maybe even some of those fancy steel cut Irish oats right out of the barrel.

I've had them before and wasn't huge on them.

Any recommendations? Maybe putting fresh raisins in would help make it less bland.
My two variations of oats are:

fresh banana/flaked or shredded coconut/vanilla essence/coconut milk or water (often don't have the last two)

fresh apple/cinnamon powder/raisins/flaked almonds

Honestly, still high sugar-wise, but way more nutritious than just dumping a bunch of sugar or honey in.

I had a brief foray with savoury oatmeal, but couldn't hack it.

I'm intrigued by these cereals on the horizon:

Hmmm. Well I bought a large box of Larabar PB and choc chip cereal bars a few months ago. I took a couple bites of one and it was unfathomably gross and I haven't touched another one.

Fam's been on a cereal kick lately. The rotation has been Frosted Flakes, Cinnamon Life, Cheerios Choc/Peanut Butter, Frosted Mini-Wheats.

That's a solid lineup imho.

Frosted Mini-Wheats is a top 3 national treasure. I don't know about an old.

I got a small sampler bag of these in a Goody Bag that Walmart pickup gave me last week. They weren't bad. I ate them dry as a snack. The marshmallows were the best part and there were plenty of them. I'll never buy them over Honey Bunches of Oats though unless there is some kind of steep discount.

You know you can get.... BOTH! No need to pick one over the other.

I'll give those a whirl if I come across them.

Anyone else on a Kellogg's break because of the strike? Really crushes my cereal options, but it is for the best.
