Grades make a huge difference but so do the pops of the grades. That’s the number of cards that have received that particular grade. So a PSA 10 with a low pop will be worth a lot more than another PSA 10 with a high pop. But you’re right that the difference between a 9 and a 10 is pretty huge.

Just from a fan of collecting, I probably never had a 10 in my collection so buying an 8 or a 9 is still as good of a card as I will have. Buying as an investment a PSA 10 looks like the way to go.

PSA is going to be giving out a lot less 10s after the scrutiny they've received over the past few years, so PSA 10's probably a good investment

Neither PSA nor Beckett are currently taking any new submissions for grading. The industry has boomed so much during COVID, they’re overwhelmed and refusing to grade any cards until they get caught up from their massive backlog.

Let’s be clear:

Baseball cards are not investment vehicles unless you are buying vintage stuff that has never gone down. Ruth, Mantle, Robinson, Aaron, etc.

Jordan rookie PSA10 is down 50k off the January top. Just because it’s in fancy packaging, doesn’t mean it’s worth anymore. A lot of people who are buying now are going to regret it fairly soon.

i still have most of my cards from when i was a kid and they're almost all worthless.
i do have some cool cards my dad gave me the best being a nolan ryan rookie card in excellent condition. most of his cards are in poor condition (including a mantle he did a math problem on the back of as a kid) but he was a Mets fan so all of the mets cards (including some seavers) are in great condition.

i also have a ball of his signed by Tom Seaver but unfortuntely also signed by Bud Harelson.

Also to the guy with the brady signed baby shoes- that's way cooler than any card you could have gotten signed.

Every once in a while I get the urge to crack some Magic packs and I have to stamp it out because I don't trust anyone for anything old and the new stuff is going the way of the 90s sports card insert craze, IMO, with all the different versions of the same cards (not to mention that I won't be playing paper at all anyway).
