I used to drink alcohol but now I have maybe three drinks throughout the year. Wine or beer at Christmas, Thanksgiving, and my anniversary. That’s about it. I used to drink more and have actually worked at a couple bars. I guess I’m just over it now. It actually burns quite a bit on the way down and I’m a total lightweight now so I just don’t like it anymore.

But enough about me, do you drink alcohol? What’s your drink of choice?

Yep. Since age 15.

In order of volume/preference:
Red wine.
Beer.
Bourbon.
Very occasionally something else.

I never understood bourbon or hard alcohol. It all just burns to me. Is it an acquired taste/appreciation or did you start picking up nuances right away?

I like beer more than I probably should. Varies with the weather. In the summer I'll have lighter lager-type things, getting darker and maltier as the weather cools.

The very occasional drink. Mostly rum or cognac neat, once in a while something different. Mostly, my liquor just takes up space in the cabinet.

I drink two to three glasses of wine every day -- more Thursday through Sunday.

Occasionally have a beer (IPA, Triple, Stout, etc.) or two (or more) and ditto with margaritas. Might have a little straight up bourbon, but that's a few times a year. (Oh, and in eggnog during the holidays.)

I love wine. Absolutely love it. I'd have a lot more money if I gave it up, but I never plan to.

I don't drink any soda, though Wine, water, coffee (one - two cups), tea basically every day.

My bourbon history: I drank it occasionally with friends in HS & college--always mixed with Coke or 7-Up which overpowered the taste. I never really liked the taste of the bourbon itself very much, but I grew up with the smell of it in my home as my parents (and all their friends) were regular drinkers. Then I went literally decades without drinking bourbon at all.

Several years ago I went to a couple of bourbon tastings with friends and apparently acquired a taste and/or appreciation of sipping it slowly and straight. We have several bottles in the liquor cabinet but seldom pour any except in colder weather. Almost always straight but sometimes we do make Old Fashioneds. We also have a few bottles of cognac and brandy in the liquor cabinet; again, almost always consumed during the colder months.

OTOH Scotch is something I never acquired a taste for at all at any point of my life. Everybody has a tequila story, and I certainly have mine. However, I will occasionally drink a couple of Margaritas at Mexican restaurants.

You have to have the right bourbon. Seriously. (I live in Kentucky.)

An inexpensive (relatively) bourbon that might be hard to find but to me is very smooth, if a little sweet, is Weller Special Reserve.

Personally, I think all alcohol (except the sweet candy stuff) takes the right palate and takes some getting used to. Beer/wine tastes bad to a lot of people. I love dry reds, but many can't stand it. My husband didn't drink/like wine when I met him, now he's a huge fan.

I used to be big in the craft beer scene, but now, mostly Mexican lagers and PBR, and even that is few and far between. Like I can count the number of beers I've had at home over the covid madness at under a 12 pack.

When drinking at home, I usually do a sipper of fine (Anejo) tequila or shots/margaritas of blanco. Last year I did finish off a 1.75 of Bulleit Rye and a couple of other bottles of Rye, too. Always served neat, over a rock.

Lately, I've been all about plain soda water with a shot or two of vodka. Keeping it clear.

Had a few Shiner Ruby Redbirds last night, those suckers are delicious.

All straight booze tastes like kerosene to me. I do like mixed drinks however with gin or vodka, never been a whiskey guy at all although rum and tequilla drinks can be fun. Mostly a beer guy though. And none of those fancy crafts or IPAs. Good old cheap ass domestic for me as I really enjoy the flavor. Crafts and IPAs are total crapshoots and 90% of them taste exactly how I would imagine skunk piss to taste like as they all seem to try too hard. I also enjoy an occasional glass of wine but typically only drink on Friday nights or when on vacation.

I never understood booze/beer/wine snobs. I see it as total pretentiousness and people paying up for stuff to think they are cool. I know I like cheap beer best and vodka is basically vodka so if you are paying up for grey goose over schmirnoff you are a douchebag. Some cheap gins are noticeably bad though but some of the bargains are good.

LOL at putting Smirnoff vodka in the paying up and totally pretentious category.... its 9.99 a fifth? What do you drink the plastic bottles in the very bottom row that are still like 6 bucks? Vodka is vodka but from someone who drinks a lot of vodka the difference between Smirnoff and the 6 dollar super duper cheap bottles is huge tastewise imo.

He did say at the start that all straight booze tastes like kerosene to him so is it any wonder.

I don’t think that’s what he said. I think he’s saying if you’re paying up for Grey Goose instead of Smirnoff.

I went to a fancy dinner party with a Mexican Chick(actually from MX) whose family owns a Tequila company, literally just straight tequila being topped off all night, couldn't be rude and not keep up, but of course dinner didn't get served until 11pm.

Sidenote: not what we were doing, but, Tequila, soda, splash of lime, and the simple syrup isn't needed. Very solid drink.

You obviously have no palate for alcohol, which is fine, but don't judge those of us who do for paying more for something that is so much better. You often do get what you pay for. I happen to love many craft beers, and while some inexpensive wine tastes fine, there is a huge difference between an inexpensive bottle of wine and a more expensive bottle if you buy the right wines.

You call me a snob and pretentious, so I guess I can call you an uneducated clodhopper when it comes to good alcohol.

I love challenging you guys to a taste test. Champagne I taste the pricey stuff being better, but people talking tastes chocolate or oak root are mostly full of **** and fail the test for red wine.

"Your guys"? LOL. What a generalization. (And not because I'm a woman.)

Bring it on. You buy
