Really feel like yuengling is just overrated by anybody who has ever been to Philly. It's pretty average imo.

This thread is making me angry.

The wife and I were just saying how me need to slow down with the drinking (rough few past few weekends) and now this thread of delicious looking beers pops up and is making me thirsty. I do love me some tasty beer though.

yeah I know I've contributed as well.

It's pretty much the Budwiser of PA. Pretty much everyone who lived in PA for more any extended period of time will drink yuengling.

Shiner is so incredibly average. Every time I drink it I'm usually thinking, why did I buy this again?

Tried the Westvleteren 8 and 12 after a local beer store got a case of it shipped. Easily the best beers I've ever tried. Since I probably won't be drinking them again unless I make a pilgrimage to Belgium, I'll have to settle for Rochefort and Westmalle for similar style breweries with wider distribution.

Duchesse de Bourgogne is another of my favorites when I can get it.

Aside from that then some Unibroue beers like La Fin Du Monde, Maudite or Ephemere are usually in the fridge.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! It's good but definitely overrated by the masses. Random aside: had Moosehead for the first time the other day, not a big fan, reminded me of Heineken. Also had an IPA (forget the brand) the other day as well, not my thing... guess I need to stick to my Belgian wheats.

Hale's Nut Brown Ale, but I haven't seen that outside of Seattle.

Slightly more available: Moose Drool from Big Sky Brewery.

+1 on Newcastle for most widely available fav.

I think you see a trend in the type of beer I like, though.

Alternate idea for thread title: What obscure beer are you dying to tell people about?

For me it's this:

No Don de Dieu for you? They sell those 4 together in a 4-pack here and it's easily my favorite. La Fin du Monde is very, very good though, I just have a pretty severe sweet tooth and the Don de Dieu is a bit sweeter.

I for one am appreciating it a lot because a small but significant part of the joy in traveling for me is to try the local ales of wherever I am.

And also, the current thread title still seems fine to me regardless.

I'm actually the same way, but there's always a certain "but have you tried this" element to these threads that I had to comment on. Continue.

yuengling's a decent choice because it's cheap but doesn't taste like every other cheap beer ie. bud light, miller light, natty etc. If there's $2 domestic drafts at a bar I'll typically just get yuengling, but it's not like "OMG i'm craving a delicious Yuengling!" Maybe it is to Pittsburtards, but who knows what the hell is wrong with those people

oh can we continue now?

The title of the thread is "What is your favorite beer?" not "Whats your favorite beer everyone has heard of?"

My favorite mass produced beer is Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

I saw Sam Adams Octoberfest mentioned and that is my favorite beer by them. Octoberfest beers are fantastic. hacker pschorr Octoberfest is great.

Nugget Nector, Stone IPA, Dogfish Head 60/90 are all high up there for me.

Been on a Brooklyn Lager kick the past couple weeks, very good.

I don't mind it but the other 3 get more face time with me. I typically buy the larger bottles as singles instead of the variety pack.

It depends on what you're comparing it to. Keep in mind that it's one of the biggest breweries in the US (if not the biggest) other than Coors/Bud/Miller and Boston Brewing (Sam Adams). It's not going to be much competition against a lot of the smaller-brewery beers, but I think it is a cut above most other big-brewery beers.

Started drinking reds/browns next and drank Newcastle exclusively for probably a year.

Later I got into stouts and porters. Still drink Guinness to this day because it's easy on my stomach. But eventually I started to really appreciate a good IPA as I would go to breweries and always get the sampler. Now IPA is usually my go to and that stone beer is incredible.

I do still have an appreciation for "good" beers of each variety. As I said in my first post I absolutely love Chimay and it's a standard ale. Though I'll admit the white (cinq cents) is my favorite and it IS super dry. Funny how this stuff works.
this is almost exactly how my taste in beer evolved.

Been raving about it to everyone. It's awesome. Pretty expensive though -- about 18 bucks/6 pack.
where do you live? i live in Indy and i can get a 6er of Alpha King (same brewery, same price point) for $12-13 at a liquor store and only $9 at my local Kroger!
