Nice list there I've been wanting to try a couple of those. I've only had I believe one or two barrel aged beers and didn't care for them as the flavor was just so overpowering, any particular ones that anyone wants to recommend?
If you are sensitive to the booze, try the Russian Rivers (i.e. Consecration/Supplication/etc.) Consecration is aged in cabernet barrels and Supplication is aged in port barrels. They will come off as sour as opposed to bourbony.
If you don't mind a little bourbon character, Firestone Walker is pretty easy to get. Their 15th anniversary ale might my my favorite beer I've ever had.
Ya im not really sure, I remember thinking the beer's flavor profile couldn't stand up to the strong bourbon flavor and I just felt basically like I was drinking a whiskey. I can't recall what brewery it was but I''l keep an eye out for the ones you mentioned, Hopslam was a great recommendation and possibly the best beer I've ever had.
Very pleased by the lack of love for Troegs nugget nectar in this thread.
Just means more for me of this amazing seasonal beer.
LOVE Nugget Nectar, it's IBU rating is sick high. Bought a case of it last season.
The bar by my house had an IPAfest on Sunday featuring a keg of Pliny the Younger. They were served in 5oz. glasses and had a limit of 2 per customer. I showed up an hour after they opened and could only get 1 glass before they ran out. Also tried:
Arcadia Hop Rocket Imperial IPA (9%)
Dark Horse Double Crooked Tree Imperial IPA (13.6%, didn't taste that strong at all)
Half Acre Double Daisy Cutter Double IPA (8.5%)
and I had to get a Nugget Nectar as well. They were all spectacular IPAs.
where do you guys go to buy these more obscure beers?
not sure where you live but check out the beeradvocate forums, they have regional forums so you can probably find out some bottle shops from there. About to crack my last hopslam! (last by last of the six pack, place by me still has a ton )
Lol KoreanBuffet you don't happen to be near Ann Arbor Michigan eh?
Thank god I work at a beer store, im always #1 on the list (for stouts at least haha). Ill be getting MAYBE a 4-pack of KBS, at least 2 bottles though, ive had Founders Imperial Stout, Canadian Breakfast Stout as just shown, Bells Nemesis, Bells Hopslam even though I don't really like it. Just not an IPA guy. Also Consecrator Dobblebock is pretty random.
Sigh no I'm in St Louis which is unfortunately a bit of a micro brew desert. Limited Cali and east coast stuff and somehow no three Floyds. We do get Michigan and Colorado stuff and there are some good local breweries (Schlafly pumpkin buy it) though.
I was in Ann Arbor for a summer. I was 20 lolfail.
So after reading a few of these Beer threads on many forums it seems that the best Beer is the stuff with the crazy looking labels. I haven't really looked in Liqour stores here in Fort Mcmurray, Alberta but I don't think they have this type of Beer. Where are you guys getting this stuff in Canada?
