I only brew my own from time to time, and only know what is done if you want to home brew. I'd imagine that unless there is some monster ale yeast that can survive the etoh concentration, they'd be forced to use a wine yeast.

In an attempt to mitigate the nittiness I have created, I really don't think it matters here. Either you like or you don't like.

Will do my best to not bore.

Corsendonk pale ale is nice.

wtf, stella and heineken only taste the same if you have lost 95% of your taste buds or you are the kind of guy that refuses to drink anything but oak barrel aged imperial stouts or some ****

yeah probably/usually

but sometimes a heineken is nice if you're already drunk and eating some fried chicken or something

but stella always reminds me of champagne whereas heineken really puts the skunk in skunked

either one are really kind of last resorts for me, though, served at the kind of places that think either one is "premium" or whatever.

Bought the coolest beer ever tonight. Haven't actually drank it, but coolest packaging ever from 21st Amendment (Brew Free or Die IPA and Back in Black are delicious)

They both taste like dog****. Whether it's a Shih Tzu or a Labrador is a distinction I never cared about.

Also, both are waaay overrated.

Last night I picked up a couple different offerings from Bell's brewery, their porter was pretty decent but the second one was their special double cream stout and it was really really good. Definitely pick one up if you like stouts/porters, I think it may be the best one I've ever had.

If you have access to Bell's at this time of year, then you must try Hopslam - one of the greatest beers ever made. It is a very special DIPA. In PA, we are waiting to get our meager allotment.

Has to be a tie between Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA or the Pilsner Urquell. I love both of those.

Fat Tire is hugely popular where I used to live in the States, although I think it's ****.

Totally forgot about Dogfishead. All their beers I've had are outstanding. They have some kickass IPAs.

I live in Michigan and work in a beer store, we got 10 cases of it last Thursday, by Friday night we were down to one case we had to save, should get about 10-20 more. (hopefully)

Our whole county only got 500 cases shipped and we may be lucky to get 30.

Also whats with the hate about Stella? Love that stuff.

Also tried Founders Imperial Stout, smooth and jet-black very good. It's KBS but before they put it in the Bourbon barrel. Would love to save a Imperial Stout then have a KBS afterwards to have a nice before/after taste.

Over the weekend in STL had the following:

Six Row Whale
Ferguson Pecan Brown
Chimay Red
Trois Pistoles
Monty Python Holy Grail Ale

Also tried the Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye, which was....not good. Six Row was really good, Trois Pistoles was probably the best beer I had all weekend though.

I had one of the Holy Grail Ales last night, it was ok, nothing special. Pretty run of the mill amber (I think).

Yeah and I found it surprisingly disappointing and uncharacteristic of dogfish head. Very weak flavor, not really unique in any sort of way. I'd say it tasted like a lighter version of fin du monde.

Honestly I would love to pick up some of this in the USA. Unfortunately all the stuff you find in stores is sweetened or not really cider, you have to head to an apple orchard in the fall to pick some real stuff up where i'm from.

I love good dry cider. Luckily in NYC I can get really good stuff at Whole Foods. There is a spanish sparking cider that is so good that anyone I have given it too assumes it is prosecco or champagne until I tell them otherwise.

On an alternative note I just got 18 750ml bottle of Cascade beers in. Have both the Kriek and Sang Rouge. Both are awesome and given they are sour ales will be like nothing you have ever drank.

I am having some Samuel Adams The Vixen Chocolate Chilli Bock right now and I am kinda diggin' it. It it kinda nice, kinda like their older Chocolate Bocks with a bit of a kick. I thought it was smooth (though my wife immediately thought it was WAAAAY to heavy). It is good though, quite nice. I am pretty happy I have a second bottle waiting for me.

Heineken is good for when you crave something that tastes like piss that was sprayed by a skunk.

Corona is good for when you desire that feeling of jumping in a pool and accidentally swallowing the pool water.

Phil: We like the same kind of beer.

Noah: Had that last week, pretty tasty. 21A and Ninkasi are both really good brewers.

1outter: East Bay has some really good beer places.
