this is the standard lineup of beers (on tap) at a typical ontario bar with "decent" selection:
1. 3-4 different macro lagers or pilsners that all taste the same (molson canadian, labatt blue, etc)
2. a light beer or two (same as 1 but watered down)
3. a crappy wheat beer (keith's white or rickard's white)
4. a "red" beer - basically another macro lager with some caramel colour/flavour added (again keith's or rickard's)
5. keith's IPA. this is the absolute worst part about canadian bars. i don't know how keith's is brewed but it tastes almost exactly like all the crappy canadian lagers. it's actually considered somewhat of a girly beer. it doesn't have the hoppy taste associated with IPAs at all. but since they call it an IPA the bars can check that off their list and hence they don't bother to get any real IPAs. (i'm an IPA drinker so this makes me very angry)
6. 3-4 imports. 80%+ of these also going to be ****ty lagers (heineken, stella artois, sapporo, etc). there might also be a guinness or something else crappy to make it look like they have variety.
7. 2-3 "premium" domestic beers. occasionally some of these will be something decent, but mostly they're just more expensive versions of category 1 (mill street organic lager, for example)
this prob sounds like i'm exaggerating, but i'm really not. 90%+ of bars will have like half this selection.
