I like a lot of North Coast's stuff, but that's one where I think there are many better choices widely available for the same price.

I had one about a week ago, I liked it but certainly different. It was smoky tasting if I remember correctly. Also had Sam Adams Pumpkin, I thinks it's new. Very, very good. It has a real natural pumpkin flavor. Dogfish Punkin is great too, complex flavor. Sometimes the Dogfish beers irrate my stomach though, maybe because they are heavy.

My favorites:

Guiness
Hoegarden
nearly any Octoberfest beer
A budweiser in a can

What are your favorite session beers? I define a "session beer" as something I can drink many over a long period of time that I won't get sick of, has <5% ABV, and has pretty wide availability. Usually drank during bbq, poker nights, watching sports, etc.

Mine are Newcastle, Anchor Steam, and Allagash White (pretty specific to summertime session drinking).

Bought the Blue Moon variety 12-pack today.

Comes with Belgian White, Belgian Pale Ale, and their October pumpkin beer. Can't wait to bust into it tomorrow during MNF.

Just finishing up on my sixer of Lienenkugel's Oktoberfest and St. Arnold Oktober. St. Arnold was better. Lienen tasted just like Sam Adams. Not bad but nothing to write home about.

Since my favorite beer was picked by a couple people and enjoyed (Dogfish head Theobroma) I figured I would submit some more of my favs:

Here are some good pseudo flavored beers that I love:

1. Abita Purple Haze (Raspberry wheat beer)
2. Sweetwater Blue (Blueberry flavored wheat/lager
3. Magic Hat No. 9 (Don't really know the flavor)
4. Firestone Walker Pumpkin Ale (duhh)
5. Dogfish head Raison d'etre (Honey, Caramel type beer, also high grav)

All amazing in their own regard.

I might get flamed for not answering your question, beer bombing the thread or being a snob or hipster or whatever, but what the hell.

It depends on how strict you are with the 5%. If very then I don't really have one. Most of the year for hanging out with friends I mainly drink IPAs that are just above the 5% mark. When in season, my go-to beers are winter ales that are apparently 6-7%.

Same goes for nitting up "pretty wide availability". If I'm in Oregon I guess the most common beers I would get for a barbecue or poker game would be:
Deschutes Black Butte Porter (5.2% ABV)
Bridgeport IPA (5.5%)
Deschutes Mirror Pond Pale Ale (5.0%).

Within Oregon, at least the Willamette Valley where most people live, you can find all of these in any grocery store not in the middle of nowhere. There are a few others from Deschutes that I drink pretty frequently that aren't quite as easy to get; you can basically get them at any grocery store in Portland but I don't think they are quite as easy to find elsewhere. Honestly, if I were going to a buddy's place to watch a game, I'd probably just go to Safeway and get whatever Deschutes is on sale or Bridgeport IPA. Maybe Ninkasi Total Domination IPA or a couple 22s if some look interesting or get recommended. In the winter all bets are off. I'll try a bunch of different winter ales but stick with Bridgeport Ebenezer (6.4%) and Deschutes Jubelale (6.7%).

Getting to what you probably meant, if I'm outside of Oregon I usually try something new or go with Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (5.6%) or Yuengling lager, which might only be available on the East Coast.

Definitely not too strict - I think the 5% for a session beer is a guideline for what won't get your average drinker trashed over a longer drinking session. For me, that clocks in at beers ~5% ABV.

Yeah I realized that the "wide availability" definition is tough - but this worked out for me rec wise, because Deschutes and Bridgeport are very available in Los Angeles - thanks for the recs!

Yuengling is the greatest session beer evar AFAIK, but not "widely available" in LA. Sierra Nevada used to be a go to for me as well, just out grew it for some reason.
