where i go, the selection is pretty good.. i still buy heineken.. if i'm not drinkin new castle. there are worse beers.. in any supermarket. more than half of the suggestions itt you can't even find in a local liquor store. what's the point?
New Hollands brewery's 'The Poet.' Its an oatmeal stout that I've even seen non-microbrew people enjoy, I just have had to put in a non clear glass to get people out of the "omg its a dark beer!" mindset. It honestly is a great summer beer, a great meal complement, and a great night cap. Really well balanced, slight coffee flavor, great color/head/mouthfeel, and the scent is a very classic stout flavor. IT doesn't leave you feeling heavy, its really easy to put back a 6 pack by yourself. Best out of their nitrous tap at the brewery itself, thats def my favorite brewery in michigan (and there are a bunch of good ones).
First time I had Newcastle I was in college and was more of a light beer guy, because I remember not liking it I have never gave it another chance. Since then my taste in beer has grown and after reading all the love on this thread for it I picked a 6 pk of brown ale, and it was very good.
