There's lots of lagunitas love in this thread. I tried their IPA a few weeks ago and did not like it all. I love hoppy and citrusy IPAs. Sculpin and cigar city jai alai are two of my favorite beers. Did I just get a bad batch? Is it worth another try?

There seasonals is where its at. Brown Shugga, Brown shugga substitute ale, undercover investigation shut down ale are all pretty good IMO. They all have a similar hop characteristics, so if you don't like one you probably won't like any.

Nope. If you love those other two, then you just had an average IPA with Lagunitas, ainec.

Jai Alai is an awesome IPA. with Lagunitas, you may have just had an older one. I also find Jai Alai to be super fruity / citrusy, with much less bitterness than a Lagunitas. You may just like that style more.

fortunately if there is one style Americans have too much of, it's IPA's. every region is producing amazing ones. even non "local" ones to where I live, but I can still get fairly fresh, like Perpetual and Flower Power are top notch. and that's before I drive into Vermont

Just had this beer today. Pretty amazing and I'm typically not a huge fan of pumpkin beers

I tried the Goose Island IPA on tap and I liked it. I bought a six pack of Lagunitas IPA and loved it! Awesome beer. Up until now Sam Adams lager has been my "high end" beer of choice. Can't wait to try the other IPAs mentioned ITT.

I've realized I am not a wheat beer guy. I did not enjoy Blue Moon, even though I've heard a lot of hype around it.

Where is the brew free or die from? How hyper-local is it?

I wouldn't use Blue Moon as your end all be all on wheat beers. There are many good hoppy wheat beers if you're digging ipas. I would suggest trying A little sumptin sumptin by Lagunitas.

Why, of course, the previous one.

Depends on the time of year. I actually like (not just tolerate) Rolling Rock in the summer--not everything has to be high-end super beer. Of course, mood-dependent; even in warm times, sometimes I just want a porter or something. (BTW, Breckenridge Brewery's Vanilla Porter with a steak just off the grill...yum).

This time of year until spring, though, slide me an Alaskan Amber and I'll be a happy boy.

Last edited by golddog; 10-04-2013 at 08:39 PM. Reason: Apparently can't type 'mood'
