Omg KBS is so insanely good. So many barrel aged stouts get overpowering booziness and bourbon flavor but this beer has a perfect balance of bourbon, dark chocolate, espresso, and alcohol heat. Your stores are likely out of this now but put it on your shopping lists and ask your local liquor store about it next year.

KBS is great but I wouldn't recommend trying to track it down at this point - it has tipped. By the time you even find it, you'll be paying over $10/bottle. Not worth it, IMO. There are many other beers out there that are just as good and much easier/cheaper to get.

I was amazed at how good the breakfast stout is from founders. And it is a great deal at my liquor store at $13.99 a four pack. I need to try some kbs soon

Hey guys, I saw this thread on BA this morning, but it was apparently nuked as advertising.

There's a site out there for buying beer online (although I think they're mainly wine, they're adding beer) called letspour.com. Here's a link to the beer part of their site. They seem to set themselves apart by upping bottle prices slightly but then offering free shipping. They also seem to rotate their selection somewhat frequently, so they've always got new stuff in. It looks like they feature mainly WC/NW brews, so those furthest away from that part of the country will see the most savings over other online retailers.

Anyways, an employee of the site was chiming in answering questions, and he offered up a coupon code for $10 off $45, so you can get six bombers of quality beer shipped for $35. I think the code was beeradvocate, but since they nuked the thread, I'm not sure. Anyways, there's also a little banner or something at the top for a "free spin" at a prize, and that seems to give a $10 coupon somewhat frequently as well.

Anyways, I can't get most of the stuff from the site in TN, and even if I could bombers are typically in the $5-10 range anyways, so it'd be a great deal for me to get them at ~$6, shipped, out-of-market brands, and thought I'd share with you guys.

Lol at those prices. Most of those beers are like $5-6 here at the most.

If you factor in shipping they're not too bad. The few times I did some beer trading it was around $20-25 to ship a 12 pack of 12oz bottles.

I bought six bombers of different IPAs for $6/each shipped to my door in TN. The cheapest comp around here would be a 22oz Stone IPA for either $4 or $5. Considering that these are beers I can't get here, I think that's a more than fair price. Doubly so when you factor in what they'd cost if they were in stores, with TN having the highest beer taxes in the nation.

I know you live in the NW somewhere, so you probably don't understand why someone would be happy to be able to try these beers. Down here we're still fighting to legally buy beer above 5% ABW, or buy a beer in a container larger than 16oz, or to be able to buy a corkscrew in the same store we bought a bottle of wine.

It's pricey, but shipping can be very expensive. If you live in a market that doesn't get a beer you like then you either trade for it (paying shipping) or buy it from a site like this.

I like the idea of ordering online with free shipping if the marked up prices yield some discount. Thanks for the link.

I traded a KBS with a buddy at school and he brought me an 08 Bell's Expedition Stout. I'm really enjoying it. Great roasty flavors with some deep cherry. I wish I could sample a fresh one because I feel like it would be pretty big. This tastes really mellow but you can kind of sense it used to be a kicker. Anyone got notes on this?

I find Expedition to be way too hot and boozy to drink fresh. I'm aging a few but I'd think that 4 years would be a crazy amount of time to age it. It is interesting to hear that it held up.

Picked up a case of Yuengling Lord Chesterfield cans the other day for about $21. At 5.4% it's not as strong as other craft beers but for the PPABV (price per abv%), it's not a bad deal. I definitely rate it higher than the macrobrews.

Does anyone have an (at least decent) tasting beer that's cheap and high abv for people who want to get drunk on a budget? Someone should put together a top 100 abv per $$ list

What would you consider cheap?

Going to spring beer and wine fest in Portland this weekend. I'll try to do a trip report of what I had if I can remember to take notes.

Re Dale's Pale Ale: I had one in a bar a few weeks ago along with an Old Slugger Pale Ale. I remember the Old Slugger being pretty rough, but I can't remember how much I liked the Dale's. So I guess it wasn't particularly good or bad.

Steel Rail Pale Ale, from the Berkshire Brewing Company, is quickly becoming a favorite, but I have a tough time finding it in the supermarkets or even the bars here in Albany.

is this responding to the high abv for cheap post? If it is, then this is wrong. Guiness is usually around 4.5%

mix with a little OJ for a surprisingly decent taste...buy olde english high gravity 40 which is something like 8% ABV, drink down to the neck, fill with OJ (its probably like 4-5 oz) and enjoy.

You are making a mistake. It is key to work your way up to it. Have one or twelve nice beers depending on the depth of your wallet, then the swill.

I once, according to events that I cannot corroborate, stated upon my third "this camo black ice isn't so bad."

From ratebeer.com:

"The can itself looks like it’s ready to beat the **** out you. The Camo Black Ice gets my nod as the greatest example of this style since the Silver Ice and the Evil Eye. The deep, saturated goat urine-colored malt boasts an extraordinary perfume of kerosene intermixed with burned hair, swiss cheese, damp moose, corn, New York subway, and wet ashtray. A classic, full-bodied palate possesses massive structure, horrifying depth, loads of hobo, and a multilayered, concentrated yet painful finish. It is difficult to predict when this beauty will plateau in terms of maturity. Drinking this on a regular basis will probably give you cancer. Not one of my favorite high-gravity malts, but it is what it is."
