Well then, where do you place ales that are lagered, such as kolsch, altbier, and biere de garde? Nobody thinks those are lagers. They are ales that are lagered.
Lager is a type of beer brewed using a bottom fermenting yeast (in simplistic terms).
Ale is a type of beer brewed using top fermenting yeast.
Lagering is a technique of cold storage used for most lagers and some ales.
