I find Beer Snobs to be socially awkward and/or douche bags.

Snobbing is for women & wine

I'll stick to my cheap, light beers, thanks.

I've been looking for this but haven't been able to find it around town, then the beer guy told me they may stop carrying Southern Tier in Michigan soon

by the book definition yes, a pilsner is a lager. But, if someone is asking for an ale recomendation, it would be like saying: well, you liked that Pale Ale or IPA, so here is a saison or biere de garde. Something like anchor steam is going to be a lot closer in style to what the poster was asking than a czech styled pilsner (I won't disagree though that it's a quality brew, it's one I have enjoyed and will enjoy again)

Life is too short bro, expand your tastes, has nothing to do with snobbery.

I have a bottle of this in my fridge right now, saving it for when I have someone else over that is interested. I generally don't prefer overly chococolaty beers so I know I'll never finish it myself. If you're really interested I'd be willing to trade it for something I can't get in WI.

Well of course a snob will come off as a douchebag, that's what a SNOB is. Luckily liking quality beer does not make you an auto-snob, it just means your tastes have matured past drinking cheap swill. Being a dbag makes someone a snob, not what they drink.

I'm a big fan of the Chokolat - I thought it was delicious. I'm also aging one in my cellar.

Carlsberg, Heineken. Guiness is not a beer, it's stout, me also likes.

Stout is a kind of beer. Or rather stout is a kind of porter which is a kind of beer.

What about ale? I have a hard time thinking about ale as beer.

It is an ale brewed with yeast that is normally used for lagers. Lager is a technique of brewing under cold conditions. Steam beer is brewed warm, so it is an ale.

I think there's a pretty good argument that the yeast makes the beer, not the conditions. If I brewed a pilsner with pilsner yeast, but fermented it at 65F, it'd still be a lager, it'd just be a ****ty pilsner.

If that were true then barley wine is actually champaigne (the type of yeast used in brewing it).

I'm not sure if you can ruin a pilsner by brewing it too warm any more than you could ruin a train wreck by having it on a deary day.

In the interest in mutual respect, I'd offer that there are lagers, there are ales and there are steam beers. Steam beers are like the platypus.

Looks like I missed the Hoegaarden discussion, but there are very few beers that I don't like to the point where I can't finish it, and Hoegaarden is one of them. I even had one in Belgium since I felt like I should give it a second chance there but nope, not for me.
