Ooohhh but summer shandy is so good playing golf or a hot day.

At my store it outsells almost every-other summer beer (corona bud light lime etc..) (other than oberon) combined.

And thats really saying something.

Just tried it this weekend - I basically agree with the beer advocate reviews (coming in with a B) - wish it tasted more "full bodied" or something, a little too watery. But definitely solid I may pick some up for this week.

Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale: B+
Fegley's Devious Imperial Pumpkin: B+

I grouped these together because not only were they both imperials, but they both tasted very similar. Decent pumpkin flavor, very malty. Pretty high ABV% for pumpkin beers too at 8 and 9% respectively.

I had a pretty good one a few weeks ago - Wild Onion Pumpkin Ale.

Has a nice delicate pumpkin flavor.

Sam Adams is not good. I used to think it was good when there were like 2 "craft" beer choices but at this point I consider it very meh /beersnob

was fairly tasty although it really didnt taste like beer to me, more like a whisky sour or something. anyone else had this or similar?

just saw this. Monk's Cafe is one of my favorite sours. Not sure I'd equate it to a whisky sour, but flemish sours are definitely their own thing and take a bit of getting used to, especially if you are more used to domestic beers that can crank up the IBUs and Hops.

I'd recommend you trying Rodenbach Grand Cru and Duchess de Bourgogne. Both are extremely good sours that are great introductions to the style

Had this for the first time this weekend (for those in SF, Lucky 13 on Market by Church has this on tap for $4 a pint. Paired perfectly with the Matt Cain WCE I brought in from Ike's down the street). Well deserving of all the accolades it receives.

Pliny the Elder must be one of the few "A+" beers on Beer Advocate?

Impressive reviews.

They have it on tap in LA (Echo Park/Silverlake) for people who live close by at the new gastropub Mohawk Bend:

UFO Pumpkin: B-
Nothing crazy complex but a malty sweet pumkin flavor domintates up front. Not a ton of lingering flavor though, ends up bitter (dry?) rather quickly. 5.9% ABV.

Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale: C
I guess I suck at rating beers because this one was the highest ranked one out of the 6 on beeradvocate. Slight taste of pumpkin and bitter hops. Seems like it should be more of an IPA than a pumpkin beer. The beer is extremely dry IMO. 6.0% ABV.

Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin: F(FFFFFFFFU)
GTFO, you don't even belong in this group. For being a pumpkin ale there was hardly any pumpkin flavor or any of the associated flavors like clove/cinammon. If I wasn't told it was a pumpkin ale I never would have known. 5.7% ABV.
Thanks for the write up.

I really like the Smuttynose Pumpkin ale, that along with Post Road (Brooklyn Brewery) are probably the two Pumpkins that I buy the most often because of price and availability.

I picked up a 6 pack of the Schlafly Pumpkin Ale which was a very good, pretty strong Pumplin Ale. Expensive though, around $11 for a 6 pack.

I'm not sure if it's still true, but as of a couple of years ago, Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada are the only two craft breweries with distribution in all 50 states.

I have only had Innis and Gunn a couple of times but it has a nice taste. It is a 6.6% beer.

The flavor of this beer happens in the middle of a sip. It fakes towards that of a 10% beer but instead leaves you with a vanilla / whiskey flavor.

My description doesn't do it justice. If you're ever presented with the chance of trying this beer, buy it and try it.

I'm an admitted beer snob too, but I'll try to keep it semi-mainstream here. This is the local beer bar I frequent; anyone in the Maryland burbs should go out of their way to try it: http://friscogrille.com/ They moved to a new location about 10 months ago, now they have 50 taps.

My favorite two beers to session:

Anytime

Summertime

And an honorable mention (I like my beers hoppy):

Two of my favorite winter beers, since we're coming up on the season:

That's Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout if it's hard to read.

This isn't really a winter beer per se, but it's heavy enough that that's when I usually end up drinking it. There was a great article in the New Yorker 3 years ago about the process that Sam Calagione went through to create this beer, though it's probably a half-hour read: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2...fa_fact_bilger

And one last choice, which might be a little tougher to find (but not too tough) - it's so good; I had it for the third time tonight, and every time I've had it I tell myself it's easily in my Top 10 (though it's pretty expensive at ~$10 for a 22-ounce bottle):

Every British pub regular is about to do that British-Parliament-yelling thing at you calling a 6.5% beer your session beer.

Odd, never had that. I've had both separately, and I think they're decent but not great. Watching a movie at the Bagdad is the nuts. Awesome old theater, with beer and tots FTW.
