on the steps going to my apt i found this bird just sitting there, i think it's a sparrow or something, can't really tell if it's a baby or not since the adults are so small but it looks adult-ish imo. it doesn't move when i get close to it, like i could've accidentally stepped on it or something. it moves its head but doesn't move its body/legs at all, and it's perched in a weird spot - the steps are like this, except with bigger gaps in them that the bird could fall through if it can't fly, which is a pretty big drop:



there's been some crazy wind gusts lately up to 60-70 mph where i live, so i imagine that has something to do with its predicament. should i make a nest for it? or at least move it somewhere else where it can't fall?

I would take it to a bit of grass or tree and let it do whatever. If it is going to die at least it can enjoy some grubs.

Birds are supposed to fly. If its not flying, its basically a beached whale at this point. Just don't step on it.

Ughh, I started thread in this same situation. Basically, the bird is in shock. It most likely got blown into your front door due to the high wind.

Check on it every hour or so, don't bring it inside if you have cats. The bird will most likely get it's bearings in the next 3-7 hours and be on it's way.

i ended up falling asleep so didn't do anything. it was gone this morning, so either fly away to happiness or fall to a tragic death

I love an animal story with a happy ending.

There was a little bird on my deck under one of my chairs that didn't move when I came outside. I figured it was hurt, because usually they fly away instantly, so I slowly moved towards it so as not to scare it. When I got closer, he ran and then flew away, leaving a big white glop of wet disgustingness on my deck in his place. F birds.

We had a strange red robin at my house last spring: he repeatedly and aggressively flew at our kitchen windows. They're not typically super-clean, and you'd think the bird could figure out that it wasn't clear air. But no: he flew at the windows no less than 500 times, driving our dog into a frenzy. Pretty amusing.

I don't know what happened to him. We were calling him "Osama Bin Robin" for a while.

Probably not enough meat on it to make it worthwhile, but if you're able to get a bunch of them I'd go with a soup.

Male cardinals do this to the side mirrors on our parked vehicles. We think they believe they are fighting other birds. One year they were so aggressive, we put plastic bags over the mirrors. Damn things leave droppings the entire time.
