I love Adam Carolla. I think he is insanely talented. I listen to his main show, the Dr. Drew one, Carcast, and the home improvement one.

Jay Mohr is a guy who is able to keep up with Adam in terms of humor and being on fire every time he's on the air.

I also enjoy Bill Burr and Marc Maron. I have listened to a couple Norm McDonald shows and thought they were pretty good, but the audio is kind of annoying (it's either too low or too high depending on who is talking) and since I listen to all these shows while playing poker, I don't like having to work hard to follow what's happening.

I listen to Rob Cesternino's Survivor podcasts, but that's quite niche.

I listen to This American Life as well, but for some reason, never when I'm grinding, always when I'm about to fall asleep.

And of course I listen to lots of Howard Stern as well, although my enthusiasm has lessened in recent years, largely because of the rise of podcasts and the awareness that there are other people out there who are quite possibly funnier and more driven than Howard is.

Crappy audio on podcasts is super tilting. I've given up trying to listen to any live podcasts as 90% of the ones I've tried have had terrible sound quality.

The Tobolowsky Files, featuring character-actor Stephen Tobolowsky. Interesting tales throughout his Hollywood career, from hosting drug-fueled orgies with the likes of Ian McKellan to poignant coming-of-age moments of enlightenment. Guy is simply an incredible storyteller with an amazing appreciation for life, never seems to run out of interesting anecdotes.

(If you don't recognize his name, think "Needle Nose Ned" from Groundhog Day)

FWIW I always mix up Stephen Tobolowsky with David Brisbin; the dad (Ben Ernest) on Hey Dude circa 1989 Nickelodeon.

I keep meaning to listen to The Tobolowsky Files. I've heard him on a number of other podcasts and, as you said, he was terrific.

Loveline was awesome because he was all off the cuff. Man Show mediocre 'cause it was way too scripted for him.
IMO he is the same guy that did Loveline just with less restrictions. It's not like he's suddenly pro drug war or anything. Besides even if he is different it's not exactly unheard of for someone to gravitate right as they get older, so it's not like it's all an act.
Of course it helps that I agree with almost everything he says. <3 Adam.

Is there any way to get the first podcasts from Dan Carlin? The podcast list I see only goes back so far.

It's not even so much that I disagree with his politics (I agree with a lot of what he says) it's that his shows with Dr Drew aren't about politics, at least they weren't in the past. They were about him being funny and talking over Drew while Drew tries to solve problems and laughs at him. I really miss that.

I'm very close to just unsubbing at this point. It's getting to the point of absurdity. He's spending more and more time on political issues and less and less on comedy seemingly with each show.

And him actually coming out and saying he's "neither left nor right" was just plain el oh el.

JRE (religiously, i've probably listened to 95% of them)
2+2 Pokercast
Just started listening to Hardcore History and it's phenomenal

I can't listen to Hang Up and Listen because the host makes me cringe too much.

JRE can drag but is a lot like hanging out with stoner buddies; one of whom is very erudite. Joey Diaz eps are my favorites.

Just wrapped up "Death throes of the Republic" on Hardcore History. F'n awesome.

I've pretty much given up on Corolla too. Nothing new there. Fitzdog is my first comedy stop now.

No Agenda (gitmo nation media assassination) great for Libertarian types also. Shut up, slaves!

The Crab Feast is the funniest podcast I've listened to since Huff & Stapes. Ryan Sickler and Jay Larson are hilarious.

Try episode 38. It's with comedian Brandt Tolbert who talks about his job placing bets for a major sports betting ring in Vegas. It's amazing.

So I made it through 5-10 minutes of the Bill Burr podcast this morning. Is that normal or was it a bad sample?

Norm Macdonald, OTOH, had me in tears a couple of times before some boring-assed guest arrived.

Am I right that Norm Macdonald is all video stuff?
if so is it necessary to actually watch it? or would just listening be fine?

I actually enjoy his podcasts more by listening to them for some reason. The genius of his humor is in its subtlety and that comes across better listened to rather than seen. Not sure about android platform but you can download all his podcasts from the iphone Podcasts app.

Also Marc Maron's podcast would be 1000% more tolerable if someone other than Marc Maron was handling the interviews. The guy just doesn't even try to be funny lately it seems, and he's constantly going, "Yeah yeah!" over his guests as they try to talk. So ****ing tilting.

Yeah, I'm just listening while driving. I'm pretty sure I don't even want to know what was actually happening during the zoo bit.

I listened to his podcast for about 6 months and it was all downhill after a certain point. There were only a few very funny episodes I could recall. So no I would not say it was a small sample size issue. It's overrated.
