I used to listen to Skeptics Guide to the Universe all the time on my commute to school. Maybe kind of dry but very informative, usually some interesting talking points. Haven't listened in a while but it's probably still on, not bad.

Ten Minute Podcast

Ice House Chronicles can be really good depending on who the guests are. Its comedians backstage doing a podcast while they wait to go on stage. Usually Rogan and that crew.

Spoiler:
BILL BURR

Big podcast listener here. Most of the podcasts I listen to are history or tech/science material.

The political and sports genres I have listened to just seem to be a bunch of people seeing who can shout the loudest. Religious podcasts are either too lecture heavy or contain a bunch of people who spend hours agreeing with each other. The comedy podcasts tend to be hit-or-miss shows. I'll listen if the guest is a person I am interested in. Used to regularly listen to Adam Carolla but once he started talking about politics he became unlistenable. I listened to a few episodes of JRE but 3 hours of a bunch of comedians talking to each other kind of sucked. Some of his interviews are pretty solid though.

Regular Shows:

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History - Best history podcast on the internet IMO.
The History of Rome
The History of World War II
Radiolab
Stuff You Should Know
Tech Stuff
The Naked Scientists

Occasional Listening:

The Moth
This American Life
EconTalk
Rationally Speaking

Freakonomics Radio was really good before they shortened the length of the episodes dramatically. I like my podcasts to hang around the one hour mark. Anything longer than 90 minutes and I'll probably split it into separate viewings.

I would like Stuff You Missed in History Class but the hosts really turn me off from the shows.

IIRC, the chick on SYSK was a substitute host. I listened to the latest ones and she wasn't on any of them.

I listen to tons but the only ones I religiously listen to are:
Answer Me This!
The Bugle

Here's a good list of comedy podcasts if you're looking to try something new. The A.V. Club also does weekly reviews of them.

I'm looking forward to trying How Did This Get Made? when I've got some spare time.

I had never listened to Adam Carolla before, never heard lovelines, and never watched the Man show, so am not jaded by the old/new Adam that people have mentioned, so therefore I really enjoy his podcast.

Fitzdog radio- Greg Fitzsimmons, also a really good podcast. He talks a lot about standup comedy, and a lot of his guests are comedians.

Alison Rosen is your new best friend- She is from the Carolla show, she isnt quite as polished as the other podcast hosts, but I still find her interesting.

Joe Rogan Experience- It is very hit or miss. Sometimes its great, sometimes its boring as ****. Also annoying is that he starts off with commercials, which sometimes stretch for 20 minutes. Lots of coughing and throat clearing as well which drives me crazy. Also quite long, as most of them are close to 3 hrs long, which is painfull if you dont like the guest/topic.

2+2 Pokercast- Very entertaining, but again a little long. I think this would be an A+ podcast if they kept it to around 90 minutes ( As opposed to 3 hrs). They tend to stay on topics for too long.

He recently replaced Jim Rome here in Orlando in Rome's old spot after Rome moved to CBS Sports Radio. It's decent enough but IMO Mohr doing comedy >>> Mohr doing sports talk.

Again I've lost a lot of my enthusiasm for him because he seems to be morphing into "angry-rich-guy-they're-coming-to-take-all-mah-moneyz-away-rawr!" and it gets tiresome quickly. Or it's some rant about the goings-on in local Los Angelas politics which doesn't interest me at all since I don't live there (on a recent one he spent a good 20+ minutes of the 60 minute show bitching about something to do with police pensions in Los Angelas...zzzzzzz). I tune in to Adam for comedy, not his take on politics.

I listened to two of his Carcast podcasts (where he discusses hot rods/racing, etc) but got bored with it quickly. He and Drew occasionally have guests on their show and those shows are often funnier than the ones with just him and Drew - two from a couple of months back featuring David Allen Grier were flat out hilarious.

Drew also has his own podcast but it's just not the same listening to him alone as I'm used to his straight man next to Adam's funny man, plus his guests are almost always just recycled guests from his show with Adam so it's almost like you've heard the show already. I can't tolerate him on HLN either for some reason. Probably that they do nothing but talk about that slut who killed her husband.

+1 to Carolla starting to get boring and too predictable, but his shows with David Allen Grier are definitely worth a listen imo.

Came in here to post this one, it's my favorite podcast, it's about Vegas and some other gambling places(a little AC, macau, etc.).

If somebody decides to pick it up from this thread, if you are going through the archives make sure to start with episodes that have Michelle in it, the ones before when it was just Tim were not as funny/entertaining.

Billy Bob Thornton on Norm MacDonald's podcast (full version) was very good imo

ETA: Also for whatever reason I found these funnier to listen to than to watch.

Most of what I listen to has already been mentioned (the $5 I spent for six months of WTF w/ Marc Maron archives was the best $5 I ever spent), but not Doug Loves Movies w/ Doug Benson. Lately Paul F. Tomkins has been doing entire episodes as Werner Herzog, and it's brilliant.

Only thing I don't like is how Brennan is always interrupting the guests and Moshe. He can also get real annoying at times. Moshe is funnier imo but Brennan is the reason they can get great guests (***** Chappelle's Show and Half Baked).

Always listen:

Used to listen but no longer:

Science:
The Brain Science Podcast (brain science geared towards the general public with 1hr interviews, only with ppl who have recently authored a book... very high level)
Science Fridays from NPR
Nature Podcast (Nature's the premiere science Journal, and this covers everything in the world of science)
Nature Neuropod
Radiolab from NPR
National Institute of Health podcasting/videocasting (lifetime's worth of stuff here)

Others:
Snap Judgment
Foreign Dispatches from NPR
Partially Examined Life (entertaining philosophy podcast, 3 people who dropped out of grad school then reconvened years later... been going for a few years now... high level)
This American Life

if others didn't already know, there are lots of apps for your phone (i'm thinking iTunes may work, I use an RSS reader called RSS demon) where you can subscribe to a podcast through their rss/iTunes link, and then click "download all" so you're not always streaming

Bill Burr's is hilarious. Not on stitcher though.

TESD makes me laugh too, but not mainstream

Norm macdonalds podcast is hilarious. He got a non-comedian/non-actor as a sidekick to just **** all over and its amazing.

Burr's is hilarious and super-impressive that he can do the whole thing solo.

JRE is amazing you just need to pick the ones with the best guests.

no love for Leo Laporte? one of the best podcasters/broadcasters out there. Does a bunch of tech podcasts for the TWiT network. This Week In Tech is good. I always find his stuff engaging/interesting for some reason even if he's just answering tech questions from callers that I don't really care about

most of the other ones I listen to have been mentioned...Rogan..american life..etc

Agree with other posters about Carolla falling off. He's tough to listen to these days and can be a complete dickhead but I still enjoy his home improvement podcast from time to time (Ace on the House)

Gotta say Rogans getting a bit boring too if he doesn't have a good guest. And he says "****ing" and "****" wayyyy too much and i'm no prude.

Can't complain too much though. All these podcasts helped greatly to wean me off my Howard Stern addiction now that his show is mostly mehhh

-Adam Carolla & Dr Drew (Adam has gotten a bit too political in recent years which has somewhat tapered my enthusiasm for this one, but I watched Lovelines a lot when it was on MTV and Adam still brings the laughs and has a good rapport with Drew)

-WTF with Marc Maron (he interviews comics in his garage, the recent interview with Hank Azaria was very good)

Not actually a podcast, but the Economist audio version is a pretty worthwhile listen each week. It's just british people reading the Economist from cover to cover, comes with a subscription.

Also a fan of the Brain Science podcast and find it pretty informative about the books being discussed and the science in general. The year-in-review editions are excellent for summarizing the books from the episodes and a general comparison.

Not a repeat of the sports show at all. Occasionally a guest may hang out but non-sports.
