darn, at least my posts prior have some cred, thanks for the info.

I did find some background on the soy debate here though: https://www.verywell.com/soy-and-the-thyroid-3231800

Here's a good review of the soy literature https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5188409/. The article was funded by big soy though.

Trying to absolutely minimize waste, cost, and effort, while still eating healthfully and continuing to lose weight. I prepped the rice and beans and baked the tofu last weekend.

Grocery shopping, cooking, and cleaning up has been kind of a pain since I injured my ankle, so I thought if I could do it once and then be good for the week it would be worth a certain lack of variety in my meals. Plus as a household of one it's easy to buy more produce than I need so tight planning with a lot of overlap means less produce wilting in my fridge.

Next week I've planned for more variety, but still very tightly as far as waste and budget. It's kind of fun to see how low I can go.

I mean, they feed soy to livestock, I sort of doubt it makes you weak or whatever. Ever seen a weak Holstein?

Top Ten: No sushi? darn. raw milk? if you are getting raw milk from healthy, organic, grass-fed cattle, you are probably getting the best milk money can buy IMO. That stuff that is packed with nutrients and probiotics that are probably killed during ultra-pasteurization.

And one other thing, does anyone here know much about soy? all of the bros are totally against it. The Twitter bros are always referring to incapabilities and weaknesses as "soy," why?
It’s pretty well established that wood cutting boards are less hospitable to bacteria than plastic, due to the way grooves develop faster and deeper in plastic cutting boards. That’s the only real issue. Plastic is better in some situations, depending on how you’re washing and sanitizing and who you are.

I’m sure there are natural foods advocates who insist that plastic from cutting boards leaches into food and idiot bros who have various idiot thoughts on the subject, but I’m not aware of real science to back any of that up.

no, but there is a chance that the grain fed Holstein is weaker than the grass-fed one. I mean, I'm never going to debate that, because 1, it seems silly, and 2, I don't have any facts but in general, from what I have read, a grass-fed cow is "healthier" than a grain fed one.

some quick research that certainly suggests grassfed>grain fed(https://www.healthline.com/nutrition...eef#section5):

Grass-fed beef may contain slightly less total fat than grain-fed beef, but a lot more Omega-3 fatty acids and CLA, which are both very beneficial for health.

Even conventional grain-feed beef is highly nutritious, but grass-fed beef contains more Carotenoids, Vitamin E and minerals like Potassium, Iron, Zinc, Phosphorus and Sodium.

guess I debated it

I don't want to be overly harsh, but this is some pretty serious denial and delusion.

breakfast - some combo of eggs (ideally with cracked yolk & olive oil) | fatty meat | turkey & cheese | nova lox | scoop of whey | granola bar | fruit | nuts | juice

lunch - carry out

dinner - pancooked chicken breasts that have been mechanically seperated and combined with pork, pasta, and thoughtless noshing on carry out to meet caloric forecasting. also: deli meat, peppers, salsa, hot sauce, beans, steamed veggies, thai, sushi, banh mi, salads, hummos, etc. sometimes i eat a large pizza pie before bed and sleep like a baby.

snacking is usually limited to a mouthful of whatever’s in the fridge. cycle between ~1400kcals + intermittent fasting and ~2200, w/one day every two weeks of extreme failure. almost no dessert, sweets, or booze.

Breakfast: Fat-free yogurt and granola mix with banana on the side.

Lunch: Salad

Dinner: Chicken, turkey or pork with steamed broccoli and an occasional plain baked potato.

Note: I haven't eaten chips, pretzels, popcorn or any dessert since 2010.

If I crave a snack, I'll have a handful of nuts, either peanuts or pistachios. Or an apple or orange.

You do realize granola isn't great for you? I don't know why you'd torture yourself and never have a dessert but then eat granola every morning.

My homemade granola (recipe from Shalane Flanagan’s Run Fast, Eat Slow) has the following ingredients: oats, unsweetened coconut flakes, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, coconut oil, blackstrap molasses, vanilla, salt, cinnamon, ginger.

Why would that be bad for me?

Whats wrong with granola? If it fits his macros there is no issue.

Desserts don't appeal to me, so it's not torture at all. I don't really have a sweet tooth, so one day I just realized I was eating them because that's what people do, so I gave them up entirely.

I only eat granola because I have to eat something for breakfast -- I'm not really a breakfast guy -- but maybe I need to rethink that given what you said out it. I can substitute it with just about anything. Cheerios?

They're legumes, I know. But I eat them occasionally because they're handy to carry around.

I've never been good with moderation, so my diet tends to swing wildly. Six months ago it was all pizza and burgers. Lately I've been almost vegan, and I feel great.

Typical one-pot meal I make these days: I make some brown rice in a pot and when it's almost done I pour on top a can of beans, a minced onion, some cubed butternut squash, chili powder, cumin, salt and maybe vinegar/hot sauce.

Also eating a ton of fruit and nuts.

Cross-posted to the vegan thread but this is about 85% of my diet these days.

Update from the beginning of the thread. That subway diet got me from 252 down to 204 in a little over 4 months. Back up in Alaska now for the summer and eating more food so hoping to keep it in the 210-215 range.

Alaska seems like a hard place to maintain a healthy diet or weight. But I could be wrong.
