Celebratory gunfire was ridic last night. Sounded like a war zone. Just glad none of it seems to have hit the house.

Huh. Got woken up by fireworks, nothing like that. When I looked at the clock, it was 10:46. Didn't get why they were being fired off then.

Happy New Year all, be well.

Good morning and Happy New Year. Mostly fireworks here. There was a string that I thought was gunfire, but I'm unsure. No visible holes in the house anyway.

I'm sure there were some fireworks involved, but most shots were too close together and regular to be single firecrackers and not close enough to be a string. The local news led with the police asking people to stop firing guns, as it was dangerous and overtaxing their response ability. The plea seems to have fallen on deaf ears, likely because they were still ringing from the sounds of gunfire.

Count your blessings. Some dipstick fireworks enthusiast owns a large field a couple hundred yards from my house. He feels it his civic duty to put on a show at any excuse. Last night he started with the nearly continuous display at about 7:00pm. I assume I was asleep well before it ended.

The silver lining is that my two dogs now totally ignore fireworks. They still go berserk at any other unexpected noise at one-tenth the decibels though. If someone wants to break in, all they need to do is set off some fireworks in the front yard. The dogs won't even twitch.

Happy New Year, folks!

Fireworks around here could burn everything to the ground. Not that it was fireworks related but doesn't anyone remember the Marshall Fire?

That would have been a great post if leon made it. Just saying.

Over the Christmas break, my adult daughter asked me if I could get her Taylor Swift tickets for the Vancouver show in Dec ‘24. Without a lot of thought, I told her I’m sure I could sort that out for her.

Jfc, I just looked into it this morning. It’s $1k a ticket to get in the door. God forbid if she wants a seat in the same zip code. I’m legit looking at $4k plus.

She doesn’t ask for much but this is a bit aggravating.

They're selling tickets a year in advance?
01-02-2024 , 02:23 PM
Apparently they went on sale last year. Only available on the secondary market.

The bigger the tour (and none bigger than the Swizzle tour these days), the further in advance they sell the tickets.

Will the Chiefs bombing out of the playoffs make prices drop in a couple weeks?

I'm not sure how you missed the reports of outrageous prices for TS tickets for the past year or more. It's been in all the papers [olds reference]. My son caught a break when someone gifted his girlfriend a pair of tickets to a TS concert several months ago and she invited him to tag along. I don't think he was just dying to go, but he sure enjoyed casually dropping that tidbit to certain friends and relatives.

Here is a man who has learned to analyze the financial markets by thinking outside of the box!

They'd probably go up actually. More people will need to support her after her fans think Travis is a loser for not winning the SB.

My god I hate the DMV. Had to come into an actual office for the first in over a decade, and as expected it's hell.

Last time I went to the DMV was when we moved here from another state. Registered our car, new driver's licenses for my wife and me, and both registered to vote. Total time spent in the building was under 30 minutes.

Yeah, here it also felt like it has been made a much less painful experience than what I remember it being earlier in life. Made an appointment online, arrived at appointment time, appointment began within minutes, was in and out in no more than 10 minutes. Was pretty blown away because I had planned on being in for hours of misery.
01-03-2024 , 10:08 AM
Here it's now appt only, with a few walk ups available if you line up hours before they open. I just checked, the next available appointment is March 19.

When you think of it as her Bob Dylan, it seems like an easy decision.

I couldn't even make appointment bc every single one of the 6 DMVs within an hour of me were booked until a week out from now. Had to do a "VIN verification" and that ended about 20 min before I was called up to the window yesterday. So I'm currently waiting at the Pleasanton dmv AGAIN and hopefully this fiasco is resolved in the next 30min or so
