In elementary school I was taught to call improper fractions "Dolly Parton fractions" because they were bigger on top then on the bottom.

What were you taught?

That God didn’t want me to masturbate. The old priest called it “shootin’ the glue.”

"Typing" - I guess that's not weird so much as extinct now. We all had typewriters with blank keys. The keyboard key was on a big canvas which hung at the front of the classroom. We had to learn to type without looking down because that effing keyboard was blank.

My seventh-grade guidance counselor taught us that fluorescent lights put harmful pressure on our brains. I thought it best not to argue with him on this point, and I just shut up and listened.

Pretty sure people are still typing :P

I actually just learned how to do it the correct way like a couple months ago. I had been typing with just a few fingers my whole life

are you hanging around pools waiting for people to drop their bricks? You can't win at life if you are sitting on the sidelines.

That not getting good grades and not going to a prestigious college would gaurantee a lifetime of minimum wage employment.

That eating cholesterol and fat causes heart attacks/ heart disease and whole grain flours are magic health fairy dust.

That wearing a jacket indoors in winter will make your body think that you're not wearing a jacket when you go outside. Thus, you should never wear a jacket indoors in winter or you'll freeze to death when you go outside.

Yes people are still typing, but not being taught typing as a class in public schools. If anything it’s even more applicable now as everyone types, not just secretaries.

All kids are a whiz w thumb typing or hunting and pecking. Imagine how fast they’d be w a little instruction.

Uh what? Every school teaches typing as a part of some kind of computer class. Where are you from?

Looking back, saying the pledge of allegiance is weird as hell.
The earliest form of public mind control I can remember.

There were a handful of Jehovahs witnesses throught the years
that didnt have to say the pledge but were required to stand.

I guess none of us really "HAD" to say it but it sure felt like we
needed to or should have to say it.

Climbing a rope is a useful athletic skill, dodging a ball is fun, only one person can use bathroom at a time, there's time for chocolate milk break and nap break after lunch. Let's not get started on the stuff they teach in Sunday school...

My kid told me that his teacher had taught the class that men have fewer ribs than women. I guess because Adam had to be made or something. This was in science class at a public school in the Bay Area

He meant alone. Under his supervision it's perfectly fine with God.

Our typing instructor in middle school taught us that we were supposed to put a double space after every period to start a new sentence. Didn't get out of that habit until college.

Double space is the one true way to type. Science says so.

A teacher once told us he had nothing to do with the www.<his_surname>.com porn site.

A drama teacher tearfully told us that he sometimes had to touch students to put them in the correct positions for the performances but that that was all there was to it and that we should ignore the rumors. (I never knew about the rumors because I was seriously out of the loop.)

When we were put in a classroom with a one-way mirror, we were told it was normally used to find out who where the sources of insubordination, but that we were only there because no other room was available, so we should just relax and act normal.

If you are good at physics then you are good at sports.

Somehow our sports teacher didn't understand that if I can calculate the trajectory of the ball I still might not be able to send it at this trajectory.

This will probably go in the wrong direction, but as an adult I find the Pledge of Allegiance pretty weird and am uncomfortable when a huge group of children is forced to say it.

In my son's Little League they did the Pledge and then some other ritualistic recitation that really creeped me out.

edit: and now I see someone else already posted that. OK then!
