Looks great! I've always wanted to buy liquid smoke and make something like that but I've never bothered. I already have smoked paprika and a chipotle sauce though so maybe I'll give that a try in a couple of months when I have more tomatoes than I know what to do with.

I've been eating black bean and oat burgers. So filling since they are each such satiating foods. I usually have ~800 cal dinner but with these I am stuffed with about 500-600 cal.

Recipe:
Rehydrate 2 cups black beans until mushy (about 5 cups once hydrated)
Mush together with oats until it sticks together
Add some chickpea flour or not
Mix in a diced onion, a head of chopped garlic, and a bunch of chopped basil and cilantro or whatever herbs you have
Season with whatever

Makes 8 big patties or even more small patties. The whole batch is ~1,800 cal

I would like to try making those...when you say "rehydrate", are you just soaking them for an extra long time or are you actually cooking the beans?

I start with dried beans--used to be lentils now I use black--and cook until (over) hydrated and mushier than they'd be from a can, then drain in colander, and then they are easy to mush together into patties and wet enough that the oats absorb the moisture. It's~40-50 minutes simmering for black beans and less for lentils. When I first made them, I figured they would fall apart on the grill, but they bind together really well and I've never been a problem. I'm going to make one tonight and hopefully I can get some pictures.

Amazin is a bloodmouth now? Confirmed?

I'm not one to hold a grudge. If Amazin really is a bloodmouth again we can hug it out over some braised oxtail.

You say that now but I bet you change your mind when he starts cramming antivaxer propaganda down your throat or whatever new fad movement he's moved onto.

(Not that veganism is a fad movement but imo it was for him)

I love black bean patties but I've always been too lazy to make myself. Thanks for the recipe gregorio.

Lol @ you trolling me on the down low

Here's the deal. Eat over 100g of fiber everyday for a few weeks, and you'll find out that these foods won't measurably stuff you any more than any other food, calorie for calorie. I had 6 baked potatoes for lunch yesterday and no diff than when I eat a pound of pasta.

He derped about still being one in a diff thread and pulled a MLY about how he wouldn't discuss it further. I've been various versions of veg for 30 years and seen the best of them come and go. That dude is living off Wendy's.

Wow, that's pretty surprising. He really talked a good game.

Anyone got a link to this derping?

He's still vegan except he was looking to buy a car. The derping was more LoL (and others ) than amazin

Well tbf buying a car isn’t very vegan. (Buying it is fine, driving it isn’t vegan)

Why isn't driving it vegan?

Well if that's all it is, that's pretty different from what I thought. From LOL's post it sounded he was eating bacon cheeseburgers on the reg.

Well for a militant vegan like LoL, driving a car is just as bad as eating bacon cheeseburgers.

I think the tires are partially made from some animal product.

Of course, stopping driving is silly unless you plan to stay in a single area for the rest of your life.

Btw, when you say dry beans, don't you have to soak them for ~12 hours before using?

Trust me, son, when a guy goes from incendiary veganism/proselytizing vegetarianism to nothing, that person jumped ship. Dude likely doesn't want a custom undertitle.

I've given my reasons for my diet in the past. I proselytize to no one and many people I associate with don't even know. If a blowhard comes around with his bullhorn, then I have no qualms about poking holes.

Have stopped eating meat for the last month or so. My current diet looks smth like this:

Breakfast- oatmeal, fresh blueberries, almonds, protein powder

Shake- frozen berries, flax seed, hemp seed, chia seed, peanut butter, kale, spinach, parsley, protein powder, almond milk, apple cider vinegar

Meal #2 and 3- quinoa or rice or potatoes, broccoli or asparagus, beans or tofu or lentils. I’ll add guacamole or hummus sometimes and use franks or siracha.

Shake-same as above

Snacks- fresh apple, protein bars, Ezekiel bread+hummus, baby carrots+hummus

I tried reading this thread from the beginning looking for suggestions to add variety, the fake meat doesn’t interest me all that much. Any suggestions for things to incorporate, preferably things that are easy to prepare or not that time consuming would be greatly appreciated.

My diet isn't the healthiest, but this is what I've eaten last few days:

Chana tofu masala-wannabe: chop up potatoes, boil them until they are medium hard. Chop up/tear tofu to small pieces. Slice an onion. Throw the potatoes, tofu, onions and one can of beans in tomato sauce to frying pan, add some water and spices (ready spice mixes are quite decent.) Let it cook for hour or so, first 10-15 at mid-high heat, the rest at low heat. Serve with rice/similar + possibly white bread.

Falafel wraps - buy some premade falafel from grocery store, heat up on the pan, open a tortilla, cover all of it with light layer of hummus, spread out few falafels on it, add some sriracha or other chili sauce and some green, wrap up the tortilla.

Noodles -regular veggie instant noodles.

Hamburger with store-bought black bean patty.

If I only used soaked beans I wouldn't use beans at all because who plans out their cooking a day in advance? Plus I'm not using raw or undercooked beans. I'm over cooking them. Re: canned beans
Quote:
Few commercial canners soak dried beans before cooking. In fact, in a way they don't cook the beans at all. The heat and pressure of the canning process (called the retort) is enough to cook -- perhaps even overcook -- the beans right in the can.

If you use a pressure cooker there is less of a need to soak the beans.
