LOL. Yes, these things are freakin awesome. In fact, I still have mine, and this past summer, my friends and I would get drunk and fire water balloons off my balcony in downtown Hoboken. It was completely immature but hilarious.

I mean, it was a pretty boring board game with 10 seconds of excitement at the end. Furthermore, one part never worked correctly and it completely botched the finish.

If you ever played with an old 60's version of mousetrap it worked much better. The cheapo 80s plastic just wasn't manufactured well enough.

Completely agree about water balloons. THey were like little-kid currency. Even more sought-after was a kid who had a proper faucet to fill them up with.

Around the time of the SS100 & 200 I got my hands on an off-brand backpack water gun. It was basically like the bucket-fill single-barrel ones, but it carried over a gallon of water. The backpack was heavy and uncomfortable as hell, so i put it in an old jansport and murdered every kid on the block. It wasn't even fair.

They'd be going at me with their 50 & 100 and I'd fire a blast as big as their whole tank in one shot... It was incredible...

I was an erector-set kid, personally. I liked stuff that stayed together until you told it not to. knex-based weapons had a higher chance of falling apart when you least expected it. I also had a LOT of fun with Construx, which were less common than either knex or erector.

yeah i think i had the construx, they came in a cardboard tube right? I never had the erector set but I think my cousin did.

Matchbox car ramps are/were still amazing too. My grandparents still have all the old toys my dad and all his brothers/sisters had as a kid, and I mean all of them. To this day when I go visit I get all my cousins together and we try to make the cars do a loop without falling/crashing. We've got it pretty dialed now.

**** etch a sketch but does anyone remember that little face with the magnetic filings and the magnet pen? That thing was cool as hell

also, lincoln logs. Jesus we had them for play time in the 2nd grade and my god it was glorious. Never enough time, never enough logs.

Also, **** spiralgraph so hard, there was nothing more frusturating than that thing.

i would always see the knex rollercoaster set up in kb toys....when my parents finally got it for me i spent about 20 minutes trying to build it and said f-this...def one of the bigger disappointments

My brother and I had the exact two Shogun warriors and I had the Evel Knevel stunt set too!! (there were 3 or 4 different Shoguns in the original set)

Weird.

My brother and I would set up a bunch of green army men in an old playskool town set and proceed to attack the town with the awesome projectiles from the Shogun.

I remember the second generation Shoguns didn't have the projectiles since the could easily take out an eye or choke someone to death. Pussies.

omg thanks for mentioning constux. i loved them but hadn't thought about them in forever. i had this set and others. one of them came in a plastic tool box type thing.

I don't remember if their ad campaign was great or not but I freakin loved these things and still have a ton of them packed away somewhere

Did these things come in cereal boxes occasionally? I seem to remember mine smelling like marshmallows or something. I could be way off though.

This literally changed my life. I don't know if there were Mindstorms commercials, but I guess there must have been. Anyway, Lego in general and Mindstorms in particular were the greatest toys ever. About a year ago, my mom moved to a smaller house and had a yard sale. I found out she sold my huge crate full of Legos for something like $30. I was more sad about that than I was when my grandmother died.

I remember getting this thing for christmas when I was 7 and being so jacked up about it. The thing went so fast it was really hard to keep it on the track. I remember my clumsy friend came over and of course tripped and fell right on the big loop part and basically destroyed it.

I also remember getting this marble roller coaster thing that seemed really awesome but I spent FOREVER setting it up without ever getting it to work right. Stupid piece of ****. Cool concept though.

Holy ****!! Muscle guys! I had boatloads of those! I even had the god-awful NES game "Muscle Tag Team Wrestling". That takes me back.
